My hips hurt.

I've been walking about a mile or more a day for years. Just in the last few weeks my hips, especially my left, have been so sore and painful. I  have a hard time getting upright once I get out of a chair and it will take several feet of walking before I can walk normally. It feels like there is a nerve stuck in my hip socket and walking pinches it.

I just wondered if this is the reverse of growing pains. Since I am dropping weight (77 lbs now) are my joints shifting and adjusting to the new weight and body mechanics? Does this happen? I remember this happening after my pregnancies.

Has anyone else had to deal with this? How did you get by?

Sounds like it's time for a visit to the doctor. I also had my hips rotate out of whack after my pregnancies, but it hasn't happened with my weight loss.  See your doc...sounds awful and very painful.  Good luck.

Yes, I had pain in my hips for a while, but it did pass on its own.  The doctor said it was because as the weight comes off, it changes your gait (again) and your body needs to adjust.  I only had pain for a few months.

I do, however, still have pain if I sleep directly on my side and don't move much when I sleep (e.g., when I need to take pain meds)... I wake up feeling like someone beat on my hip in the middle of the night, but it doesn't hurt any mroe when I walk than when I am just standing or sitting.... so it isn't the joint that is affected, just the bone itself.  I had hoped my body would get used to not having the padding of the fat, and it got better after I bought a new pillowtop mattress and a heavily padded mattress pad, but it still happens occasionally.

I have had hips, knees and back with issues since losing weight.  The chriopractor is my best friend.

I have had the hip problems---my right one pops in and out when I walk :(  it is slowly correcting itself.  I figured it was something that needed to re-adjust after losing so much weight. probably should have gone to the dr. but have left it to fix itself.  good luck and I hope it gets better soon!

I have had pain in my hips every now and then as a post-op. I think its from weight shifting and possibly changing how I walk.

I have also had some knee pain. I was told this was due to weak muscles.

I have had some extreme back pain. I was never really told why I had this pain. I somewhat think its due to several things, and one being my surgery. I think with the rapid weightlose that my body just can't catch up. I also had a very small disk issue. The doctor said in most people as small as it was, it wouldn't cause pain, but in me, it did.

Thanks everyone. It's good to know that this has happened to others. I've been taking Tylenol for the pain, which sometimes works.  I'll see my doctor about it, but hopefully it will pass as time goes on.
