i think it's got a lot to do with everything they put you on in the hospital. i remember feeling that way at first, especially when someone was cooking something

No, it's not just you. I too am more sensitive to smells--food smells AND all others. Too much perfume on someone and I go crazy, stinky street smells (I live in NYC) and greasy food smells all set me off.  I've thought about carrying a hankerchief so that if i need to, I can put it over my nose, but haven't yet.

Smells (even ones I used to like) bothered me for a couple of months after my surgery. At times, I felt like everything made me nauseated.

Ok, I feel better. I was running to the bathroom earlier to remove my deodorant. I thought I was going crazy. How long will this last.

I'm A LOT more sensitive to smells since the surgery and I've always had a pretty good sense of smell. When I first got home not only was I sensitive but everything smelled BAD! Even my poor husband smelled so bad to be the first couple of weeks. Now I can tolerate a lot of smells and of course I love my husbands smell again (thank god)

Has to do with the weight loss....ketosis. Is normal, and does diminish over time. I still can't stand strong cooking odors, cigarette smell on people like I used to tolerate them.

Welcome to our world. Smells bother many new post ops.  But, some of these issues may linger for a long time. I had trouble dealing with the odor of bacon cooking. It makes me want to barf.  But, even at 5 years post op, I still have to leave the home or go to the opposite end of the home when someone cooks bacon.  I don't mind the flavor of an occasional piece of bacon, but the odor of bacon cooking is still an issue to me. I had RNY on July 20, 2011 and immediately smells made me wretch and nauseous. Not pleasant at all. See the doc tomorrow and going to see what I can do for this. I will post what she says! Good luck
