Hi Ladies,

I am new to the board and first want to say hello! I'm excited to be a part of the group. My gastric bypass is 6 days away on Monday, August 1st. :)

I am having such trouble sticking to the pre-op diet! :( It's supposed to be 2 weeks of clear liquids and bariatric solutions protein shakes. It's so freaking hard! Any suggestions on how to keep on it? I've been able to get myself down to one meal a day plus whatever clear liquids I want. I don't want them to cancel my surgery but I'm just so hungry and the clear liquids aren't helping me feel full at all!

Thanks for your help,
Nichole :)

Hi Nichole,

I had lots of trouble with the preop diet also. I had 2 protein shakes a day and my surgeon allowed me to have a tiny portion of grilled chicken and salad for supper. I drank what I thought was enough water, but was still dehydrated entering the hospital. This is the most difficult time of the whole proceedure because you may feel that "hunger". Just know that after the surgery you really won't feel that hunger in the beginning which makes it a bit easier. Keep on track, you will be soooo happy if you do. It is important to do for decreasing surgical risks.

I had my RNY 5 weeks ago and so far so good. Feel better already. I won't say it's easy, but worth the health benefits. I am going to an exercise physiologist tonight to be evaluated for what I should now start doing. Pre op I couldn't even consider that. It's kinda scary, but I hope I can do this to keep my muscles stronger.

Have you tried sugar free popsicles? or maybe sf jello? I mostly stick to water cause I like it. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. By being compliant I lost 19lbs pre op in 2.5 weeks. Hang in!!!!!

The protein shakes kept me pretty satisfied when I was on my liq diet (2-3 daily) and I also sipped on soup broth alot. I also kept in mind that the purpose of this diet was to reduce the risk of complications during my surgery and I certainly didn't want anything bad to happen to me on the table!! The 2 weeks went by pretty fast for me because I tried to keep my mind on something other than food.

If the hunger is truly unbearable, tell your surgeon about it.
