Tail Bone pain... Is this type of pain common? How long?

I have read lots of posts on here about the muscles around the tail bone making it painful to sit.  Well, when I sit (even on a coushon) my tail bone HURTS! I can feel my tail bone rubbing on my skin, and it is extremely painful. If your tail bone bothers you since losing weight, is that what yours feels like?

I mentioned it to my surgeon, and he did not seem concerned, but it is so painful. :(

Less padding back there causes a lot of post ops to have tailbone pain. It's not as bad as it was but if I sit to long it hurts really bad. Maybe putting some ice and heat on the area may help with the pain.

Could you feel your tail bone rubbing against your skin? That is the part that makes me wonder if it could be something more serious. :(

Thanks for the ice and heat suggestion. I hadn't thought of that. :)

Yes I can feel it rubbing against skin. Its not pleasant. I have a lower back injury and disc damage.
If you're worried it could be something else maybe you can talk to your primary Dr. And see if getting an mri is possible to check for injury. If you haven't injured it, it's more than likely just because of the weight loss and not enough padding back there anymore. Ice and heat help me. Alternate them for 20 min at a time a few times a day. Hope you get some relief.

Something I forgot, I got one of those exercise balls and I love it! I sit on it all the time and it takes pressure off the tailbone area, plus it strengthens the core muscles and you're not sitting on something hard.

im glad you asked that question about the tail bone. Mine hurts also when I sit anywhere. I drive a school bus so i'm a bit worried about when school starts back up. I guess i may be sitting on a hot pack while i drive! Hope you feel better..

I use one of those seat cushions that has the vibrating & heat inside and that helps big time.  I use if for back pain but it also helps with the tail bone pain.  Good luck :-)

I'm two months of straight tail bone pain, daily. My surgeon said it's normal. MY pcp also checked it out. In time I hear it gets better.

We had surgery on the same day....mine has been hurting alot lately, too.  Especially if I've been sitting too long, even more when on a hard surface.  OUCH.  Hoping it will get better, not worse, as I still have 50 pounds to go....there was one gal on here who had surgery to have a piece of her tailbone removed.  Certainly hoping it doesn't come to that!!

I feel your pain! One of the tips I found online was to sit on one of those "doughnut" cushions, it helps retrain the muscles in our butts to help alleviate the pain. I haven't resorted to that, yet...
