Low Vitamin D level
Had blood tests done and am deficient in vitamin D. I checked the amount of vit D I get in my vitamins and calcium and it totals 5600 IU's. The doctor said to take 2000 IU's daily not knowing how much I already take. I called and spoke to the nurse asking if it will hurt for me to take more D. She didn't think so. Anyone else with this issue. I am about 9 months post op and have lost 100 lbs.
I just got mine back(first lab done) and my vit d was 17.5. He put me on 50,000 iu once a week for 4 weeks. I will be ordering me vit d that is recommended here on the board. I had been taking 5000 iu daily as that is what they told me to take. So I would think that 2000 would not hurt. I'm only two and a half weeks out, so I already had a deficiency before surgery
As low as you are, 50,000 IU once a week won't help at all. 5000 IU a day won't help, either. You need big doses, like 50,000 IU a day for a month or two.
You need your vitamin D level at least 80. Below 80, you're at increased risk for osteoporosis, heart disease and other bad stuff.

How low is your vitamin D level? How much we need to take depends on our level, but no, it won't hurt you to take more than 5600 IU a day. If you have been taking that and your level is still low, then obviously you need more. And if your level is low, you probably need a lot more than 2000 IU. Many of us have to take as much as 50,000 IU D3 a day.
Also you want to make sure you are using dry D3, not D2, not in oil.
