How much Protein?

I do a very high level of protein but have a specific reason and guidline I have followed to get to the amount I target.  I see some people doing 100+ grams and was curious how you determined the amount of protein you shoot for.  I'll explain my goal and why in a response.

I shoot for 70 grams, based on the ASMBS suggestion of 1.1 gram per kilogram of ideal body weight.

For anyone trying to figure it out... 1kg=2.2lbs.  So take your ideal weight and divide by 2.2 then multiple by 1.1 to find the grams of protein you should be consuming per the ASMBS (according to Kelly----- I didn't verify).

Just thought I'd help.... :)  I can just see people scratching their  heads trying to figure out what the idea body weight in kg is LOL

or... to make it simple..

(body weight /  2.2 )*1.1= body weight / 2.  (divide the body weight by 2 )

So for person who's ideal body weight is 150 lbs, minimum proteins intake= 150/2= 75 gr.

But if you include that we malabsorb proteins, than you may want to add some ... maybe 20%?

20% of 75 gr = 15 gr.

so the minimum proteins for 150 lbs person may be: t75+15=90 gr.

My surgeon said between 50-60 was good but if I can get in more to do so. I try to shoot for 70 or more. I just feel better when I get more in.

3 years post op.  A few lbs above goal.  large frame, muscles. body fat % -~20%

currently:  proteins 120-160g per day on a relatively low carb diet.  Excluded most grains, starchy carbs, etc.

reason for high proteins:
- on 80-100, or 100-120 had low normal protein blood test results. Now at 120-160 - finally in a mid range.
- due to low carb - the body needs calories - so it is either the fat or proteins... too much fat makes me nauseous.  RH - on carbs.

Well, let's see...

I did about 150-170g a day until riiiiiight about after this pic was taken:

You can begin to see the definition in my arms. But I didn't like the general direction I was going in. About a month later I looked in the mirror and saw something very Lou Ferrigno-esque (not ANY woman's goal). So I cut back to about 100-120g.

Now I look more like this:

Much smoother lines, less bulk. Me likey.

My protein goals are based upon my level of activity both running, weights and other elements of my training.  Higher lean muscle mass requires a higher level of protein, even more so when training.

I do 1.7 grams per KG of body weight.

At 215 this places my current protein target at 166grams.

My goal is 80-100 grams a day. I feel better when I get in this range. If I don't get enough protein in for more than a day or two I'm dragging butt.
