Surgery recovery time

I looked at the FAQ and I know there will be some variation, but would most people agree that recovery takes about two weeks?

I am awaiting approval, but Dr says all going well we would be looking at early september for surgery.  My husband travels with his job and we are just curious about how long he would have to be around after my surgery. (all going well)

Everyone is different.  Some are in a lot of pain and take their pain meds like clockwork.  Depending on if you have smaller children that need looking after, etc. will also depend on how much help you will need.  I had my surgery 6/21 and had my kids (ages 10, 14 & 17) around to help me if I needed it, but I didn't take any pain meds because I didn't need any.  All I really needed help with was laundry and I had my oldest drive the younger ones to Jiu Jitsu class.  The kids already do dishes, bathrooms, etc for their chores.  But would say in general, after two weeks I was moving around pretty good and not so fatigued as I had been a wk or two after surgery.

Edit:  Forgot to add that my biggest issue was being able to sit at my computer for very long.  For some reason sitting at this angle bothered my stomach on the inside sutures/staples so that took a little longer.  But there are a lot of people that have gone back to work after a wk or two, so depends on your job, etc.

Good to know.  My son is 14 so he isn't an issue.  As long as I can drive myself around I'll be fine.  I don't work outside the home so that isn't an issue either.  Last major surgery I had was a c-section so if it's not as bad as that I should be good.

I doubt I'll need pain meds for long.  I don't usually.

My RNY wasn't nearly as bad as my c-sect.  I was able to do everything for myself pretty much right away.  I didn't need pain meds once I got home from the hospital.  You should be ok to drive as soon as you get off the pain meds.

My husband took off 3 days, to hang with me in the hospital.  Not really necessary, but the company was nice.

My mom stayed w/ me full time for the first few days after surgery. I say I was fine being on my own 4 days out. You can drive as soon as you are off all your pain meds which for me was around 4 days. I had 2 weeks off from work but could have easily gone back after 1.

I had surgery on Monday, came home on Tuesday, hubby went back to work on Thursday. I pretty much only needed my pain meds at bedtime because it hurt to get in or out of bed and finding a comfortable spot was tough the first few days. Mostly I felt like I'd done about a thousand crunches after not exercising for a year  -- I just felt really sore. I took my last dose of pain meds Thursday night. I drove myself to my 1 week post-op visit. I went back to work after 3 weeks (could have done it after 2, but I decided to take Christmas week off as well.)

I did most everything at home I normally do except clean and change the cats' litter boxes -- the bags of litter were too heavy for me to lift. I also didn't do much cleaning for the first few weeks. I did do laundry by carrying a few clothes at a time instead of an entire washer load.

I was back to work in a week.  I have a sit down job and I was so incredibly bored at home, I went back to work.  I would go in a little later and leave a little early but they didn't mind cause I really wasn't supposed to be there at all.  And I didn't have any help with the kids besides getting someone to pick them up from school.  My first 3-4 days were bad but after that I was just slightly sore.  Hope this helps!!!

I'm 4 weeks out and still have a "tight stitch" in my stomach muscle wall. It's still tender and eventually will stretch out but I am cautious not to cause a tear in it. Other than that- back to normal.
