What vets taught me.

I see we had our biannual .."vets are so mean" post. It's as predictable as spring.
So I thought I would share what vets taught me.
They taught me that you can do it.
That's it...and that's big.

How do you live your life? What do you eat? How do you handle feelings without a big mac? How do you keep moving? What vitamins do you take so your bones don't fall apart? When will I stop losing weight? Any question..any time of the day or night I can post here and get an answer. Many answers.
Many heartfelt feelings of support.
Kicks in the ass if I need it.

In my "real" life I don't know many people who have had this surgery. One of my friends had it and considers 7 shot of chocolate mocha's a meal.

I had this surgery to save my life. And it did. Changes I couldn't have even imagined took place and continue to.I had this surgery to get on the kidney transplant list and I'm so healthy now I don't really even need the kidney. A miracle!

I'm am happier today than I have EVER been.

Thank you to the ones that came before. Thank you for the ones that come after. It makes my journey easier.

Deb, I TOTALLY agree with everything you wrote and have nothing to add.

This is a public forum.  And sometimes when people type things, it's easy to read meaning into it in a way a person never meant.  I have benefited so much from the vets, and all those who have gone before me and those who go after me.  It's a life long process and I'm thankful for all the help I've gotten.  To everyone out there, THANKS!

This surgery has given me back my life, and for that I am most thankful.

My favorite MAMA!
I just spent 6 hours at a hot crowded swim meet with the boy and wife. There were some serious mamas there!
I'm whopped!

The true sports mom!  I want to tell those serious mamas to get their own life and stop living through their kids.  Such crap.  Seen enough of it with soccer parents.

SO, did I read that right????  You don't need a kidney transplant?  I'm so happy for you.  It's been too long.  I've missed you.

I need a kidney but don't neeeed a kidney. My function has stabilized. It's not great but it's enough to keep me going and I don't need dialysis. So I can patiently wait until the right one comes along. It the meantime I'm out living my life.

I think I'm the opposite parent.  I may too relaxed! I brought my comfy chair, snacks, and surfed the net between races. He berated me for not writing down his time..whoops! Michelle is much more interested/involved. I do like watching all the little kids do their races. Such drama!

I'm so glad for you!  You must feel so free.

I use to care more about how much my son played and if the coach was fair.  But then they both got really sick and there was two years of hell.  We didn't even know if my younger son could play soccer again after his knee surgery.  I've come to realize that there are so many kids out there competing, and very few scholarships.  If you put all the money you spent on the sport in a college fund, you'd have much more than any scholarship can get you.  And the kids don't like their parents getting so worked up either.  It's much better to just go out and enjoy them having fun.  And I'm just grateful he can play again.  If they're serious, then they will be serious enough without you.  If not, then let them just enjoy the sport.  You aren't too relaxed, you have the right perspective.

Mazel Tov to you!
Hugs!

I am so thankful for all of the vets. I don't post a lot, but I definitely read all the other posts and try to take in all of the advice that is being given. Thank you to all of you that ask the questions before I do and for asking all the things that I wouldn't think to ask. And a special thank you to all of the vets that are providing all of the answers and useful advice.

The vets taught me that "we can do hard things", as stated by one of my favorite vets Shari. I will always be grateful to the vets from whom I learned much more than I learned from my surgeon, especially about vitamins and labs.   Thank you to all the vets who still post here:  Nik, Lora, Kelly, Beth....... and to the those whom we don't see as often:  Pam T, Andrea, and Shari.  I wouldn't be where I am now if not for the knowledge and support I found here on OH!!!

Shari taught me that food could be fun again. It was a great gift.

I wish I could learn that. I still have serious eating issues.... as in NOT eating.
