"All You Can Eat" is such a waste now!
Last night DH and I went on a double date with friends of ours and we went to a mongolian BBQ. Click the link if you are not familiar with the concept. It's unlimited bowls, and I made my bowl really really small with about a 1/4 cup of lo mein noodles, 6 broccoli florets, 4 slices of green pepper, 2-3oz of beef, and I used the sugar-free 'Thai peanut pesto' sauce. (So excited they had two sugar-free sauce choices!)
Well, I was a good girl and I ate my protein first...and I was done. I couldn't even touch the rest of it!
I watched my friend Steph have two bowls full and our hubbies each had three bowls. I was stuffed and couldn't imagine eating as much as they did! Although I do wish I had been able to eat a little more of mine.
"Unlimited" isn't so economical when your pouch has such strict limits of it's own. LOL!

I was thinking of going to a mongolian grill for our anniversary but I think it would probably just drive me crazy watching my husband go back and back and back for more. I like going to restaurants where I can bring my meal home. At buffets I used to eat SO fast. I wonder why people think they need to eat so fast.
I don't know if you have a BD Mongolian Grill (www.gomongo.com) where you're at, but they have two options on the menu. A single "trip" and unlimited - if you order the single trip, they also allow you to take your leftovers home...so perfect for us. And it's YUMMY!
The last time I went there I packed my bowl full and had food for almost a week before I got so sick of eating it!

You know, I don't know. They have a great 'bowl builder' option on their website, but it doesn't list sugar. They list a lot of their sauces on the site, but they have even more at the restaurant.
I'd just ask...they are so helpful there and completely understand the need for special dietary restrictions.

I had Mongolian BBQ for the first time in years the other night, and was excited to realize how good an option it would be for me after surgery - lots of protein and veggies and you don't have to get a starch if you don't want. The place I go to has about twenty sauce creations - but I need to check to see if any are sugar-free. It also has the single or unlimited option, with a doggy bag allowed for the single serve.
No, it's not economical. But you're not just paying for the food. You're paying for the atmosphere, for the opportunity to hang out there with your hubby and your friends. It's a good opportunity to practice focusing on the company, not the food.

I didn't say you were not paying for the food, I said you weren't paying for the food only. But I guess you know better than me what you were paying for. Since it was only the food and not the atmosphere or company, I guess next time you could go somewhere cheaper to eat by yourself while everyone else goes to the Mongolian BBQ.
