Question About High Cholestrol & Triglycerides
I just had my 6 month blood tests done.
Triglycerides are high at 164.
HDL Cholesterol is low at 34
LDL Cholesterol is high at 114.
Vitamin K is low at 0.13
Iron level low at 221
I can correct the vitamin deficiencies by by taking additional supplements which I have started.
I don't eat meat but do eat a couple of meals with dairy like cottage cheese or other cheese. I eat eggs when I can stomach them, hummous, tofu and drink 2 protein shakes a day.
When I can eat I also try to get in some vegetables & fruit.
I have had 3 structure dilations & have an ulcer that is not healing and may require surgery.
Why are my Triglycerides so high?
Cholesterol out of whack?
Going to see my PCP today to get her opinion.
Does anyone else have issues in these areas?

Hi, you are still healing and adapting.
Triglycerides - are higher - are due to some carbs. Carbs = triglycerides. Post op RNY we absorb carbs very well - and initially malabsorb a lot of fats, but they are just borderline high. I would not worry too much about that at this point. 1 -1.5 year post - op - probably would start worry.
high LDL - it is not really that high. Again - you are healing, your body is breaking down your own fat cells - not something I would be really concern. I wish my was like that. Mine is too low - too high - is not good, but with LDL too low - that is not good either. One day - it may drop too low - watch for that - low cholesterol may contribute to depression, slow healing, etc.
Low HDL - that you may need to try to get up. It is low. That IMO - may be what you really need to start working. Also - getting the HDL up - may fix the other 2. Fish, fish oil Krill oil, etc. - what may help you to bring the HDL up. Adding a fish - good fish a few times a week, adding some supplements: i.e. fish oil - Coroomega - it is nice and taste good IMO.
Low Vit K - that is not good either. I started supplementing with K shortly after WLS surgery. Bruising, etc - was my main issue. But -K- is oil base, so not only I took it internally (still do ) but I also use a cream with K- to help with absorption though skin. Health food stores carry creams like that. I like the Jason brand. Here is an example - I paid less on line in vitacost.com

Now I also buy and take vit K. Vit K is not only very important for clothing but also for bone building. and there are many different forms: K, K1, K2... and many experts can't agree which one is the best. This is what I take (daily) or equivalent
