How does one stretch the stoma?

That's basically the question, how does one stretch the stoma? Are there particular things that people do/eat that causes the stoma to stretch? Just kinda curious about it and I obviously want to avoid doing anything that would cause that to happen.

Thanks!

Basically the stoma can be stretched from too much food in the pouch....after all the work I've had to do.....

I have learned that eating slower and enjoying the food is better for me...

Yeah I've heard it is eating too much. I've been worried about it lately because I tend to eat really fast. I also don't measure my food and usually eat less than 4 oz at a time but sometimes I'm sure I prbably eat a little more. I don't know how easy it is to actually stretch it though. Hopefully a vet will answer.

The stoma is the opening where the pouch connects to the small intestine.  From what I've read, the main way to stretch it is to have big chunks of food pass through it.  That's one reason it's important to chew our food really well.

Most docs say it's not real easy to stretch it, so if you swallow a bite of something without chewing real well, don't panic.  I think it would probably only be a problem if you had big chunks of stuff forcing their way through there on a regular basis.
