2 weeks post op/Crushed Pills?

Well, I had my 2 week post-op appointment with my surgeon and I'm down 21 pounds since surgery. It felt so good to step on that scale. Even though I know I'm still obese, it keeps moving in the right direction (down!)  and keeps me motivated while I'm stuck eating the blended foods. He also gave me the okay to try and stomach my pills without crushing them. Most of them are small to the begin with so I hope it isn't a big problem. Does anyone know why they tell you to crush pills in the first place? It makes me so nauseated and I've tried everything he would suggest. So I'm hoping I have no problems from this, whatever they may be.

The only advantage is that it It is easier to digest crushed pills on a malabsorbtive digestive system, and the only disadvantage is that if it is a large pill it could get stuck.   I swallow all my pills whole and have since about two weeks out, consider breaking in half the larger ones.

Good luck
Jackie

I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and I will keep crushing my pills until I'm able to swallow reg food without getting stuck. I've already by accident got a pc of chicken caught and it was horrible so I gladly crush those pills...lol.

That's what my surgeon said- to keep crushing until you can eat solids. I told him how much of a problem I'm having with the crushed pills and he said I could give it a try. I'm assuming I'd know if something got stuck? I'll make sure to cut the pills smaller if necessary but cannot for one more day tolerate the crushed pills as it keeps physically making me sick. We'll find out soon if I can tolerate it. I know some people have never crushed their pills (or so they claim). Thanks for your input!

I never crushed any of mine but I did use a pill splitter to cut them into small bits.

Some  people worry that pills might get stuck if you swallow them whole in the beginning.  I swallowed pills beginning the same day I had surgery, though, with no problem.  If any of yours are real big, you can cut them in half.
