Frustrated

I am awaiting for the insurance company to approve my surgery and have been trying to stay between 60-80 protein daily and 90-110 of carbs daily. How come I just ate lunch (baked chicken, black-eyed peas and carrots) for lunch and I still feel hungry.  I hate this.  This is so frustrating.

I use MyFitnessPal program (love this program) on my phone and I have consumed 57 carbs and 55 protein so far today (breakfast/lunch) with one meal left and that is about normal for me.  I usually stay about 25 protein and 30 carbs per meal.  This is what I was told by the dietician that I would be at about six months after surgery, so I figured I would start doing it now.

I have lost about 10lbs in four weeks, which is about a little above average.  I am not frustrated about the weight loss.  I am frustrated about feeling hungry right now, only an hour after eating.  I guess I will just drink water until I can't drink no more.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Please help me....

You have not had oyour surgery yet...that is why you are still hungry.  Your body is used to more food, higher calories, less protien.  I think it is great that you are trying to do this, but honestly you will remain hungry until you have surgery or you body adapts...which could be a while.

Unless your doctor suggested you do this, I would not worry about the diet until you are asked to start the pre-surgical diet.  Your insurance company could take 30-45 days to make a decision.

I do find it admirable, and don't want to discourage you, but if you could do that type of diet on your own you probably would not be having surgery right now.

I wish you the best.

I hav been doing this for approximately one month and actually have not felt hungry at all.  Today is the first day.  After I have all my information to the surgeon, nutritionist (done), phsycologist (done) and three months of medically supervised weight loss (checking on this one, have had three visits, but not sure if the insurance company will use the initial visit), then the surgeon sends in the papers to insurance company and they told me approximately 3-4 weeks.  I can't wait until I know the paperwork has been sent in.

Thanks for your comments though and I am only discourgaged because I want to eat but I think it is testing how strong I am...

It is normal to have "hungrier days" pre-op AND post-op. Our bodies are machines and sometimes we need more fuel based on our activity levels or for many around that time of the month. Then, there are days, we just don't feel like eating. Hunger is normal. If you are hungry - eat something. Just make a wise choice. Maybe a piece of fruit or cheese. Sometimes it just takes a few bites to satisfy your hunger. I think it's more important to really listen to your body and eat in a mindful manner than to worry about the numbers for the day.

Good luck to you!

The only time in my life when I wasn't hungry has been post-op and after day 4 of the pre-op clear liquid diet. It seems much easier to not be hungry when you aren't eating solids. At least for me.

I couldn't go without food for more than 2 hours before surgery or I would feel nauseated and my stomach would burn so bad. Thank goodness I was able to have the surgery.

You'll be post-op in no time! Great job on your new eating habits.

my nutritionist put me on the post op diet even tho i'm pre-op. I'm finding that some days i'm more huingry than others. But what i'm frustrated about is that I'm not loosing any weight at all. I'm gaining weight.  It's so discouraging to be working so hard and feeling hungry on most days only to be gaining weight. i dont understand it..

Michelle,
I use a program called MyFitnessPal, which I use on my phone and it syncs to my computer.  You can download it at www.myfitnesspal.com.  If you have a droid, iphone, blackberry or windows phone, you can download the app to it.  It is a lifesaver for me and makes me accountable for what I eat.  I used to write down everything that I ate and had all intention of coming home and putting it on my computer but wouldn't and would lose interest.  I have been using this program since July 24 and have lost 14 lbs.

My nutritionist told me that 3-6 months post-surgery I would be eating approximately 21 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbohydrates and that is what I try to stay at.  I have to admit that I do have my slip ups but it is infrequent and it is usually for a special occassion, like this Monday I had a piece of  red velvet cake (only ate half of it after one of my co-workers made me feel bad) and I am glad she did because I probably would have ate it all but instead I hate the bottom half without the frosting/minimal frosting and threw the rest out.  I wish losing weight was as easy as gaining it but if that was the case we wouldn't have an obesity problem here in the US.  Stay positive and good luck....It will come off eventually.
