I called my surgeon's office today to find out about the three month medically supervised weight loss needed for Fed BCBS approval and was told that they were waiting for the information from my doctor and my thyroid/vit. D levels and that I could fax them.  I am going to fax my lab results to them tonight and I am thinking about stopping over to my doctors office to pick up my paperwork and then it is off to the insurance company for approval.  I have a 40+ BMI with only hypothyroidism and have already done my nutritional consult, phsycological consult and three month medically supervised weight loss.  As soon as my surgeon recieves the paperwork, they are submitting to insurance for approval.  Does anyone know how long it takes for FED BCBS to approve gastric bypass?

My DH is a mailman and we have FED BCBS and approval was in less than three weeks.  The insurance company sent me an approval letter that actually started with "Congratulations we are happy to inform you that you are approved..."  Tomorrow is my surgery day!  So very soon you will be getting that letter in the mail too!
