Thank you for that information.  I like that you still look for positive aspects to rny despite the problems you've had.  I was surprised that you can't drink plain water though?  Why is that?

Also, do you think you would ever get a revision done? Or even a reversal?  Although I think that is hard to do.  It seems like RNY has just caused you too many problems.  I agree with you on the band because that was what I thought I wanted at first until I looked into it a bit more.

Due to insurance the sleeve or DS isn't an option so rny is my only choice.  (it's tricare and I am only allowed to see civilian providers b/c hubby is retired.

Plain water - not sure why. I used to love it. Maybe becasue of all the proteins? I knwo that I am not the only one. A lot of peoples have issues with plain water post op.
Reversal or another surgery is not an option. ( One - no money - 2 - no more surgeries. For now - I will live with waht I have,  Could not justify any surgery at this moment.

If RNY is the only option for you - then that is what you may have to settle for. Unless you can afford self pay VSG.  Bu then - some people do also have issues with that.

Knowing what to expect - is half the battle. I think. Be ready, and maybe you will be the lucky one who have no issues ?

I hope so.  And hopefully you will be in a position to have revision done someday.

hmm... PLEASE do not tyhink in that terms. Revision shall be absolutely last resort.  Once you get the WLS, make sur eyou work with it, as if that is the last suregry you ever can have.
Rvision is possible, but the death due to that and complictaions is much higher.   And yes, I want to scare you... Every suregry carries a risk, the more surgeries you have - the more scar tissue body will make, making it dangerous in a long term.

Once you get the RNY - work with it. Be dedicated.

One thing what i did not mentioned:
If RNY was the only surgery that i could get - I would still go for it. Complication or not.  I do belive that, as WLS - is better than not doing anything and remain fat.

I'm NOT thinking about it in those terms for me.  It was just that your description of your experience seemed so bad, I thought it would be something you wanted.

I would expect revision would only be applicable to people who the original WLS has caused more harm than good.  For most of the people I have spoken to, most have been glad they did it and have no regrets - even if they have sometimes had minor complications.  I expect the same.

Revision is not an option.  here are the reasons:
1. had already few abdominal surgeries and recovery is more difficult as the times goes buy
2. any abdominal surgery may - will cause scar tissue - so avoiding more surgeries is to try to limit scar tissue (and we are talking about the inside your gut scar tissue - that may cause bowel strangulation, and more  and more pain due to internal scar tissue.
3. Don't have enough excess weight to loose - not enough anyway.  I gained 20 lbs back - 10 on purpose - another 10 - by accident lol.  Another surgery may make me lose more weight. My lowest weight - since  I have a large frame and lots of muscles - was too low for me... my body went into shut down.    Too low body fat %.
4. No money and not time to take off work - the way my last surgery went - it took me over 6 months to be able to get back to work full time.  I still work on trying to get my iron up - had to have iron infusions.
5.  90% of the time right now - I can control symptoms by following a very strict diet: very low carb, eat every 2-3 hrs (or when I feel my BS is dropping), no alcohol, not too much food at one time, etc, etc, etc...
6. At last but not least -  any revision surgery may not fix what is now wrong with me.  The docs do not know why people get RH long term post op RNY.  Some say - it is dumping, but some say that that is due to pancreas making more insulin so the only way to fix the RH issue - is to remove part of the organ.  And that is not easy - since removing too much - may then damage the pancreas - or cause it to make not enough insulin - therefore putting a person into diabetes...

So - darn you do - darn you do not...

Now - I want to live my life.  No more surgeries if I can help that.  If that means that I have to supper careful what I eat and drink, and how much and when... I am planning to do that.

also - revisions are very, very tricky. So you would need a really good doc to do that. And there are only few of them in US or in the world.

I hope that answered some of your questions.
