Low Carbs...How many a day?
I know so many people are doing the low carb, avoid all white products diet. How many carbs are you trying to limit yourself to each day? Do you keep your carbs lower than your protein count or how do you decide what the magical figure is? I try to keep my carbs less than my protein count now, around 90. I started out with 50 or less but it took away alot of my fiber from healthy vegetables, fruit and grains. Actually I was not getting any grains.:(

do not count fiber. I only try to count "net carbs" = total carbs - fiber.
I do try to stay at 30-60. Try is the word. lol... Most days I do, but not all the time.
I get more carbs on days I work out. But again - try to get the "slow carbs" veggies, same fruits, nuts, etc.

yes, that is correct. Fiber - goes through you. We need that. It is not really digested, nor causes insulin response. BTW: what low carbs diet does - is limit insulin release in the body. So - when eating anything - fiber is great since it slows down food passage, digestion and assimilation. It is much better to have more carbs - even net carbs in a meal that also has a lot of fiber, than the same amount of carbs as sugar - even natural.
Example:
8 oz of milk has 12 gr of carbs - I dump on that, or crash after, or both.
But I can eat a lot of nuts - with 20 gr of carbs - and be fine. Better than fine.
Same with fruits: when choosing fruits - try to get some with a lot of fiber, rather than just swee****er... (i.e. berries no****ermelon) .
Also - have fruits with fat - proteins. i.e. snack: 1 tsp PB + 1/2 apple, and not 1 apple (apple = carbs only).
The 100 cal pack snacks (i.e. cookies?) usually deliver a hit of carbs with not much other things.

I am staying around 20 net carbs and 16-18 ounces of protein a day. My husband's doctor placed him on the New Atkins for a New You "lifestyle". Which is so close to what I follow. I know I'm not eating any fruit now, but am eating a ton of veggies.
Once we go to Phase 2, we will be adding some nuts, fruits, more veggies, back into our diet. Then on Phase 3 and 4 (Pre Maintance and Maintaince) (sorry about the spelling) will be able to add a few grains back in. In the last 4 and a half weeks I have lost about 13 pounds of the 34 pounds I regained over the last couple of years.
