Hello everyone! So...I have been going back and forth on my decision on the RNY or the sleeve for over a year now. My insurance does not cover the sleeve, and I have researched the RNY for over a year and I am so happy I have fully made my decision to go through with it!! I see my doctor tomorrow and schedule my EGD etc...I have already have my 6 month diet completed. I am very excited to start my journey and thank everyone on here for your support!! PLease wish me luck on my new journey.

RNY on 09/14/10 with
Good luck amberk82! It is very exciting and even more exciting after the surgery and healing! I don't regret one second of having RNY. I wanted the DS but things out of my control wouldn't allow me to have it(self pay) insurance wouldn't pay for it but they would pay for RNY. I haven't had any complications(yet) and I am almost 1 year out.

Take care and enjoy the ride..hope to see you on the Losers Bench soon! :)

Congrats on your decision Amber82!!!

Dr. Wade Barker also did my surgery back on 7/11/11.  I had a revision from the lapband to RNY.  I too wanted to have the sleeve done but Dr. Barker suggested that due to my band being located in the wrong position I may have had some esophagus issues.  I was terrified to have the EGD done but it was a peice of cake.  I had really wondered if I could have had the sleeve and just wondered if what he told me was really true about going from band to bypass.  In my group session before my surgery another girl sitting one down from me was also having a revision from lapband to bypass and he had told her the same story as me.  Her band had been also done wrong and it did compromise her esophagus.  I then knew I had come to the right doctor and have not regretted selecting him at all!!!!  This girl had seen 3 other Bariatric surgeons before Dr. Barker and she told me he was the best she had seen so far!

Dr. Barker in my book is an amazing physician and his office staff couldn't be more caring!

Good luck on your EGD and your upcoming surgery!  Please keep me posted on your progress and welcome to the losers side!!!!

Good luck to you.  I'm glad you took the time to learn about RNY and think about your choice and be sure of what you wanted.  I bet you're super prepared now.  Hopefully you'll be posting to tell us when your surgery date is soon.

Good luck to you. I also really really wanted to have the Sleeve done.  It would have truely been the best thing for me as i have always been scared of the RNY.  My insurance would not pay for the sleeve either.  Crazy because its cheaper than the RNY.  The lapband wouldn't be a good choice either for me as i have quite a bit to lose and don't need that extra tough struggle to do it.    But next week i am scheduled for the RNY.  I am excited and scared all at the same time.  I am glad to have found this website so i can share my journey with people like you

Thanks everyone for all your support! @ CNelson, I am very happy with Dr Barker...he did my mother in laws lapband then her revision to the sleeve and my sister in laws sleeve as well. I have heard nothing but great things about him and I think he is one of the top in his field. I see the doctor today and I will find out when I can have my EGD. Will keep everyone posted :)
