So..since surgery on Monday.....Help?
Hello all,
Surgery went swimmingly, woke up fine and first day was a breeze, then the pain set in. I was prepared since I've had my gallbladder removed for the insane muscular pain in the belly. What I was not ready for was the nausea, the staff did a fab job of keeping up with it in the hospital. The night I left was miserable, I had to go back and have IV fluids with 3 rounds of anti-nausea meds and two doses of dillotted. Next few days ok...fast forward to last night, I woke up around 2 upset that I didn't sleep for longer I was uncomfortable so I got out of bed and sat in a chair and dozed off, I woke up an hour later to excruciating pain in my left kidney area....it felt like i was being stabbed. This lasted off and on for an hour, and has not returned. I have called my surgeron and waiting on a call back....is there anyway this could be gas pains or something else other than a kidney stone. I'm terrified, still in quite a bit of pain from surgery and this would just destroy me. I've been doing everything by the book, breathing excercises, walking, meds, vites, and liquids.

As far as the stabbing pain in your kidney, perhaps just muscle pain from falling asleep sitting up? Especially if it stopped awhile after you got up and moving around. I was not able to sleep comfortably on my back or side, but had a great deal of success on my couch, with pillows propping me up behind my back and shoulders. So it was sort of sitting, sort of reclining, with my legs stretched out along the length of the couch. I think the firmness of the couch was a lot more restful at that point than my softer bed.
A lot of people have a fair amount of pain on the left side because that's where they put the camera in, if you had lap surgery. Are your pain meds helping?
