Have all your health problems disappeared?
For me..Yes. Pre-Surgery, I was on 22 prescription meds including chemotherapy (Methotrexate) weekly Enbrel injections, pain patches (Fentanyl)...I was in a wheelchair with a serive dog with unstabilized Autoimmune disease. I had severe back pain (docs were talking upcoming surgery) my adrenal glands were going wonky and a bunch of otehr weight related problems.
Now..I am ONLY on 5 prescription meds. I am out of my wheelchair and do bodybuilding! My dermatomyositis is under control. No more chemo or enbrel or infusions. I enjoy each day of life to it's fullest and haven't felt this good since I was 20! (I'm nearly 50).
Things WLS will NEVER, ever, ever correct...
1) Certain metabolic conditions (Thyroid, PCOS, etc.) Type 2 Diabetes yes. But not thyroid issues.
2) Mental Illness of ANY kind!!!!! (Depression, PTSD, Anxiety...Whatever it is...WLS will NEVER "cure" or help mental illness...)
3) Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis
4) Autoimmune disease
5) Cancer
WLS can HELP many of these. I have severe osteoarthritis, crushed disks, etc... My pain is much LESS...But I've had to work hard at the gym to build solid muscle to support my joints. Yes, I still flare in my autoimmune disease. As to the Lymphodema, that can happen to thin folks too...Exercise will help some in moving fluid around out of that leg (And massage and wrapping it!) Once you have your Doctors OK, get thyself SWIMMING and walking (about 2-3 miles a day) and lower your salt and take your water pills. That should help immensely.
PS: Sadly I see to many folks come on here with Depression or other mental illness thinking that WLS will "cure" them or at least "make them happier"...It never does. Now if your depression is caused ny extreme physical pain, and if that pain is releieved...Obviously THAT can help some. But if your anxious, OCD or what not...no.
Good luck!
Warmly,
Jackie

it seems like my body has certain issues when i'm heavy - depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. pre-diabetic. and other problems when i'm not as heavy (i don't consider myself thin at all) - anxiety, back pain, and migraines. it's the same problems i had the last time i had lost weight. apparently i'm just meant to be a medical mess! lol
My blood sugar leevls are great now (I was not yet diabetic, but was getting dangerously close) and my sleep apnea (and even my snoring) is completely gone. I still have the PTSD and depression from a violent sexual assault, but the other aspects of my depression (the weight related depression) are much better.
The one thing that improved VERY little was the pain in my knees. My arthritis was too advanced by the time I had the RNY, so eventually I will have both knees replaced... one probably within the next year or so.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
