Excessive sweating and hot after eating-- what causes this?

Lately I have noticed that I will get so hot and sweat terribly after eating. It usually happens after low fat cheese or fat free half and half. What causes this? Is it mild dumping? I have never actually dumped since surgery.

Any thoughts?

What about other dairy foods? Maybe lactose intolerance? Not sure if that can develop spontaneously...

That sounds like the symptoms of dumping that I experience. Maybe you have developed lactose intolerance. And also, how fast are you eating/drinking these products?? our bodies are crazy post-op. So don't be surprised if you have strange reactions to things that were fine before.

Sounds like DUMPING to me.  I've dumped 2-3 times from foods I had on special occasions.  Anxiety, rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating, and feeling very warm that I had to take almost all my clothes off to feel comfortable.  Did you have anything with sugar alcohols with these items?  Sugar alcohols can cause some people to dump also.  DAVE

It could be dumping or lactose intolerance, as they symptoms are similar (at least for me!), Maybe get some Lactaid tabs and see if they help; if not, it's likely dumping. I take two Lactaid tabs with most dairy and I seem to have been okay since.

While I can't tell you excatly what is happening to you, I can say that I feel that way if I have eated too much at one time.  It feels terrible.  I usually have to go lie down for a while.

I first noticed it while drinking coffee with ff milk and ff half and half. I thought I just got hot from the coffee. Then I noticed it today with cheese. I hadn't eaten much when it happened, but I stopped eating, and I felt better within 15 minutes.

I eat a lot of dairy, so I will start paying close attention to see if I am dumping from the dairy.

Where do you get lactate tablets? Also, if you are lactose intollerant, do the drs recommend staying away from dairy or just taking the lactate?
Thanks for your replies!

I have never heard of just sweating from lactose interance - it usually causes bloating, cramping and diarhea but I guess with us anything is possible.  When I dump, I only get diarhea.

If you are getting your problems from tiny amounts of milk, cream or cheese then it is most likely from the dairy.  Keep a diary of what you are eating and drinking to see.  As far as how to eliminate the problem - you have 2 choices - you can avoid all dairy which is very difficult to do - all milk products - cheese, yogurt, ice creams, whey protein.  The other option is to take lactaid pills and use lactaid milk, soy milk.  When people are lactose intolerance - you are missing an enzyme needed to absorb dairy, so by taking the lactaid pills, you are getting the missing enzyme.  Most people can get by on 1 or 2 tablets are fine taken immediately before ingesting a dairy meal or drink.   I did that for years and was and mine actually went away before my surgery.  Then after 2 years I had some complications and needed more surgery and it came back with a vengence.  Now I can't touch dairy - even lactaid milk makes me sick.  I have tried taking up to 4 lactaid pills at  a time and nothing works.  Give the pills a try - take 2 and see what happens.
