Surgery on Friday- Panic attack tonight
Pre op anxiety will not increase your risk of complications, no.
Many people get very anxious before surgery. I think it's partly fear about complications, which people have going into any surgery, but also fear about all the changes we will have to make in our lives after surgery and fear that we will be the one person that has WLS and does not lose weight (you won't be the one person, I promise).
I'm sure all the drama going on isn't helping. If the anxiety is really bad, you can ask your doc for something for it. The day of surgery, before you get into the OR, you can also tell them you are really anxious and ask for something for it. They will give you something good.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I'm like that before I go to the dentist!
As far as pain, you will be well taken care of in the hospital and you will be given a prescription for pain meds to take at home.
As far as "what can go wrong?" try to think positive. My husband had this surgery two and a half years ago and did beautifully post op. I also have done well since my surgery a month ago. Going into surgery, I wasn't even scared of dying, believe it or not. My mind is perfectly at peace about that and I know that this surgery has been performed an amazing number of times with no casualties.
As much as you can, read people's experiences here. I think you will find that the majority of people are very glad they had this surgery and have no regrets.
Surround yourself with encouraging people who are not prone to worry or over-excitedness. Can you busy yourself? Pull out your fattest "fat" pictures. You'll be looking back in disbelief in months. Go shopping for the stuff you'll need post-op like your supplements. Go on a quick trip, if there's time, or do something fun you know you won't be doing for a while. Do whatever it takes keep your mind occupied so it's not consumed with worry. If you can't stop worrying, write your feelings down in a blog or journal, so you'll be able to look back on what your feelings were before your new life.
I wish you every success!

I was a basket case.,.. until the morning of my surgery. I was strangely calm. I had pitched a fit to make sure my surgeon knew I am prone to panic attacks and would need help at the OR. They gave me a little happy juice when I asked for it, but even then I only asked as a precaution, not because I was anxious.
Write all of your goals, look at before and after pics, think positive, take walks and trust your surgeon.
