Vitamin D3 10K UI available at local Walgreens 2 for 1 Sale

Just FYI -- If you need to take dry Vitamin D3, Walgreens stocks Natrol 10K UI Vitamin D3 tablets in their stores and has it online. It is regularly 9.99 for 60 tablets, but right now they are having 2 for 1 sale. I'm going to head over to my local Walgreens and pick some up.

BTW, not all Vitamin D3 you find at the local drug store is equal. If you have had a malabsorbtive procedure you can't absorb it using the gel caps and need the dry, tablet version. Here is the URL the online information for this product so that you can order online or know what to look for if you go into your local store. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/natrol-vitamin-d3-10%2c000- iu-dietary-supplement-tablets/ID=prod6063891-product

Hi Kipz,

Make sure that you are taking the recommended regimen and working with your Dr if your numbers are not moving in the right direction. If you haven't done so already, you will probably want to get and keep copies of all of your labs so that you can see trends in the labs. Also, a couple of good resources for information about vitamins after RNY are WLSVitagarten.com, as site created by another knowledgeable RNY patient and VitaLady.com a site that sells supplements to the WLS community, but also is very knowledgeable.

Wishing all the best,

It says that these are softgels.  I thought we weren't supposed to take those.  Tablets and capsules only, I thought.

You are right these ARE soft gels and ARE NOT the right ones for us.  We need/want the DRY form of Vitamin D3.

That's correct, we won't absorb the vitamins in the soft gels as well because they have oil in them and we malabsorb fats.  A tablet or capsule (the kind with powdery stuff inside) will be absorbed better for us.

The reason they make some vitamins in the soft gels is that vitamins like A, D and E are fat soluble so being in oil actually helps most people absorb them better.  Because of our RNY, we're the opposite though.

I understand what it says on the website, but these are actually dry D3 tablets, not the softgels described on the website. However, the picture of the bottle on the website is the correct bottle to get in the store.

Ok the description is TOTALLY wrong.  It discusses Vitamin B and talks about niacin (B vitamin) and no flush.  It's also per the description a softgel which is a FAT soluable form of the Vitamin D3 and not in our best interest to take as we won't absorb it correctly.

I'll stick to the tried and true D3 I order from Vitalady.

Not a problem. Actually, this product sale was brought to my attention by AndreaU, aka www.vitagarten.com and I know that she actually had the product in hand and looked it over, so I feel relatively confident that it's appropriate. It is not a softgel. It is a dry tablet. I added the web link so that you could see what the bottle looks like because they do carry the softgels which we may not absorb as well. The website may have the wrong description associated with the product, but the picture is the correct picture, so that people that are going to the store will know what the bottle looks like.

Also, one of the things I liked about it was being able to have local access to it and that there were no shipping charges to deal with. That said, I just wanted to let you know that it was available and of course assume that you'll make a decision that works best for you.

The picture does say tablets, and in my experience they usually say softgels if they are, since many people seek those out for swallowing ease (not us, of course, LOL)...usually you can look in the bottle and tell if they are softgels or tablets if you have a Walgreens near you and can buy in person.
