Whey Protein or Whey Isolate
Post-op do you use what type of protien do you use. I was looking in Walmart today and was looking at either whey protein or whey isolate. Both have a high amount of protien in them. I called GNC to see what the difference was and they said the whey isolate is finer, which make it mix better. They actually recommended GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60, which has 60 grams of protein, 7 grams of carbohydrates per 3 scoops (only 17 scoops per container, $65.99), which would be 20 grams of protein, 2.3 grams of protein per scoop. Not sure if they are just trying to get me to buy their product or not but wanted everyone's opinion before I got out and buy it. I won't buy it until I get by surgery date but have been looking around. Thanks for all your help...
I heard that whey isolate is used by our bodies better. Walmart's Body Fortress has a blend I believe. It is perfectly fine. I honestly don't know of one person who had any difficulties from only getting their protein from a blend. It is much more cost effective and I used Body Fortress almost exclusively for pretty much my first year. I switched to whey isolate because I found a great deal on the unflavored, cheaper then Body Fortress when bought in bulk. I doubt I will see a difference in my labs but who knows?

Most of what GNC sells are targeted towards body buiders. Their Isopure is close to $20 cheaper. less carbs, virtually no sugars. They want you to buy their most expensive. I went to their store the day after I got home from surgery. Whey protein has lactose in it. Whey isolate protein has close to 99% of the lactose filtered out, and is generally considered the better form of protein. Vitalady usually has individual samples of several flavors of whey isolate protein for sale. You might get a couple of samples of flavors that sound good, and try one of each prior to surgery, marking the second sample Good or Bad. Try them again a week post op. Your tastes may have changed. Based on your preference of taste post op, buy that protien. OR, you can get an unflavored protein to add to foods, crystal lite, etc. I still use the unflavored generic whey isolate protein I found some 3 years ago. I routinely still add it to SF pudding, oatmeal, my own shakes etc. Mixes easily and doesn't alter the taste of foods. DAVE

The whey isolate I use is generic--no branded name. On my profile page there is a photo of it, my blog there talks about it, and it's noted on my personal web site. My surgeon's nurse often gets some too for the patients who are difficulty finding a protein thay like. DAVE

Body Fortress also makes a Whey Isolate now too! The only flavor they carry at Walmart is vanilla. It tastes pretty good. It has 30 gms of protein per scoop and I think around 130 calories. It costs $21.97 for a 2 pound tub. Body Fortress also makes a cholcolate whey isolate...but I can't find it in ANY stores. I'm going to talk to my local Walmart buyer to see if they will order some for me. I am using the GNC Pro Performance Amp in chocolate ...I like it...( I DID NOT like their Vanilla or strawberry!) It is expensive, but I have a GNC members card, so the first week of every month I get a 20% discount and sometimes I can also get in on the buy one get one 1/2 off deal at the same time. GNC will honor both deals together. It saves a lot on money, but I still think the Body Fortress Whey Isolate in chocolate will be much cheaper.
