After much consideration ive decided on RNY. Maybe its the.wrong choice and yes.it is life long. But ill never know if I dont try. Sure there are a number of signs pointing to RNY. Maybe god's way of saying this is the right thing for me. Odd thing is I almost worked for BCBC which would have covered VSG...but it didnt work out. I just have to trust that God has led me on this path. Im a pain baby so im so scared of surgery and pain! But hey I had two csections if its twice as bad ill get through. I have to give up food thats pretty sad...since my life revolves around it lol.

You absolutely do not have to give up food. I am 10 weeks out and I have no food restrictions.  You will have to sacrifice the AMOUNT of food in your life. And you will have to learn the right kinds of foods to eat to promote a healthy lifestyle change.
Here is a short list of some of the foods I eat weekly-
tenderloin steak
lobster
jumbo shrimp
tuna sashimi
all kinds of fish
grilled chicken breast
egg products
cheese products
chili
soups
fresh veg and fruit
skim milk w/ protein supplements
oh, yeah, and water.. alot of it. but not right after your meal

Congrats on your decision.  I am 3 weeks out and just about to stop eating pureed foods and going to soft foods.  Still i have not really went without because i can eat protein and i love it.  And all that Tim is eating is right around the corner for me.  I can't wait. I am especially hungry for shrimp and fish for some reason and vegies.
So you might have to give up some stuff for a bit but not forever.  I miss sandwiches and am sure i will eventually go to subway again but i will eat the kids meal instead of a adult meal.  lol
take care...

Congratulations on making your decision.

I've never had a C section so I don't know how the pain compares.  I did not have too much really bad pain with my RNY.  The first few days were the worst, of course, but mostly then it hurt when I stood up or moved in certain ways.  It was easily managed with pain meds.

You don't have to give up food.  That seems to be a pretty common misconception.  But you will still eat after RNY, just smaller amounts and hopefully healthier choices.  My life does not revolve around food now, but I like food a lot and I eat plenty of delicious food, most of which is good for me.  In a typical day I eat about six small meals.  And I eat good food.  Including the occasional treat, like a slice of sugar free cake I ate this evening.

I had no pain. My C-section did involve pain.  The thing is - is that the 1st year was an adjustment because my pouch was sensitive but I never, ever, felt deprived because even with a few bites of something early out - I was full and completely satisfied.  I had no cravings.  Over 2 years out and the only thing that I really don't eat is hamburger buns and pizza.  I can't stand the taste of pizza now.  I can eat  a half sandwich or sometimes a whole sandwich or a few bites of hamburger - but I just don't have room for the bun...  It's a good idea to find  a hobby that you will enjoy, like reading or traveling or jewelry making or taking a class or planting flowers or participating in volunteer work etc. so that you will have another focus besides food.  After you begin losing weight while realizing that you feel full and completely satisfied with smaller portions - your focus will change - because you'll have more energy to do other things besides worry about your weight.

Congrats on your decision! I also had 2 c-sections and can honestly tell you that my RNY pain wasn't 1/4 as bad as the c-sections.I was one of the llucky ones that sailed right through with no complications.  I was pleasantly surprised!  Good luck to you and keep us posted!

I too shared your fears about "giving up food", but as the months go by and you're able to eat more "normal" foods, you will still be able to enjoy some of the things you love.

I told myself I have to realize that food has NOT been my friend, it's been an abusive lover.  It's had me trapped in a cycle of ups and downs and has always had control over me.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I keep telling myself that my life is worth more than being about to eat a Krispy Kreme donut.  There are so many things I want to do (include have a baby), and if I want to LIVE my life then I need to take control of food.  I've tried for 20 years on my own and I've decided I need this tool to help. me.

Please continue to read the post op boards, so many people say yes, the first few weeks are rough but almost NONE of them regret it, and just about all of them say they'd do it again if they had to in order to be as happy as they are now.  I've been researching WLS for about 5 years and RNY is the most commonly performed and the most successful in long term weight loss.  Just do the research on your surgeon and make sure you feel comfortable with him/her.  This was very important to me, making sure I was putting my life in the hands of someone experiences and knowledgeable.

Good luck to you!!!

Peace & Blessings... Kelly
