Question --does all your docs tell you it must be calcium citrate rather than calcium carbonate?

Yes the carbonate gets fizzy and causes gas and citrate does not.

Calcium carbonate does not get fizzy or cause gas.  You are probably thinking of carbonic acid, which makes carbonated drinks fizzy.

citrate dissolves without stomach acid and can take without food. Carbonate increases our likelihood of kidney stones.

Unfortunately, not all docs do - but they should.

It takes lots of stomach acid to break down calcium carbonate so it can be absorbed.  After RNY, we don't have much stomach acid so we can't absorb calcium carbonate.
