Another post about Iron

I ordered Tender Iron capsules from Vitalady. I also ordered the D3 50k (?).

In the mornings I take (along with my actigall and ulcer meds):
 2 Centrum Silver
 1 B12 Sublingual
 1 Biotin (7500mg I think?)
 1 Calcet chewable

In the evening I take the actigall and prevacid (calcium is throughout the rest of the day via Citracal petites dissolved and calcet chewables)
.
Is it ok to add both the D3 and the Iron to my nightly meds? Or do I need to take the D3 separately? Also, the D3 says not to take more than 1x a week.... I thought I had read on here where folks take it daily?

You can take the D3 with anything you want, so adding it to your bedtime meds is fine.  And you can take the iron then too, as long as it's been at least two hours since your last dose of calcium.

Some folks do take the 50,000 IU D3 daily.  It depends on your vitamin D level.  Have you had yours checked lately?  I'm not sure why the bottle says not to take it more than once a week but I know many people do - including, I'm pretty sure, Michelle, who owns the company you bought it from.  Docs usually freak out if you tell them you are taking that much daily and think you're going to develop toxic D levels from it, but I don't know one single person that actually did get toxic, though I know many people that have taken that much daily for a while.  Including myself, I did it for several months until my D level got up to a good level.  And now I take it three or four times a week to maintain my level.

I haven't had Post-op labs yet, I am 5wks out this past Tuesday. I was deficient in C (left that out, take it in the mornings as well).
I started to take the iron and D3 last night but the iron says not to take it with any other vitamins and minerals so I decided to wait.

If I can get the vitamins figured out I might start to believe I can do this thing! LOL

You'll get the vitamins figured out.  It takes a while.

If you take your C with your iron, it helps you absorb the iron better.

I'm just curious, how did you find out you were deficient in C?

My pre-op Labs... all the lab said was I was vitamin deficient and the PA (at my primary doc) put me on Vit C.

I was curious because vitamin C is not something most docs routinely check.

Have you ever had a vitamin D level checked?  If you haven't been taking any vitamin D up until now other than what is in your multi or calcium, it is fair to say you almost definitely deficient.  75% of the population is vitamin D deficient and an even higher percentage of overweight people are, so it pretty safe to say you are probably deficient.  With that being said, it would be better to know what your level is but without you still need to take it.  You definitely want the dry D3 and I would say taking it either once or twice a week to start with is a good place to start.  I started pretty low and when I went on the Dry D3, my level skyrocketed within 2 months taking it 2 times per week.  Many take it daily and are then sorry with crazy high levels.  So, you can go by what you doctors says and just take it the once per week and you will get decent results but if you want really good results, try the twice per week but dont' go higher than that until you know your levels - the stuff works really works and on some people really fast.  You also want to take vitamin D with calcium - it helps your calcium work better.

your centrum silvers - the chewables are best - they have selenium which the tablets don't.  You also need to take them 2 times per day, not in one dose.

I wouldn't take the prevacid with your iron since prevacid suppresses acid and you are taking the tenders with vitamin C to give it extra acid to aide in absorbtion.  The prevacid is supposed to be taken 30 minutes before dinner anyway.

the only thing you are missing is vitamin b1 - we tend to malabsorb B1 pretty quickly and it can cause nerve damage very badly. You should take 100mg per day and just B1 by itself, not a b complex.

They may have checked Vit D in pre-op labs, but I didn't know to ask for a copy back then (I know now ;)  )
My surgeon seems to just start the basi vitamins and then at 6 wks adds D, etc - from what I gather from others. I could be wrong.  So I don't really know what they will recommend on frequency , amount, etc.

Maybe it's pepcid then? I don't know it is the generic prescription name  and it is for ulcer prevention

Thanks!

You can ask for a copy of your pre op labs now if you want one.

If your doc recommends starting D3 and other vitamins at six weeks out, it's probably about time to find out what those will be, you think?  You're more than four weeks out now.
