Pain-- C-Section v. RNY
I'm just curious since I've never had any other procedure besides the C-Section I had with my twins eight years ago, and would like to get an idea of the pain/discomfort level I might experience. To those of you who have had both, which was worse? I was out at the mall five days later trying to find clothes that would fit my twins who were too big for premie clothes and too small for 0-3 months. If it's not worse than the C-Section, I think I can handle it.
Thank you :)
Thank you :)
Well, I have never had a c-section but I did have a vaginal delivery with no drugs and it was a lot easier than that !!!
Honestly? I never had any problems, had no painkillers after the first day and went home to care for my 11 month old on the second day - my husband went back to work on the third day!
I know that pain tolerance is subjective but I think if you are having this done laproscopically - it will be way easier than having a c-section!

I have never had a c section but my sis,have..and the pain she had,was nothing like my pain after my wls..I had surgery on Sept 21, and the pain wasn't that bad after the first day, its the gas pains,lol..but I walked walked and walked and as of today Saturday I feel fine...so once u get rid of the gas pains u will b ok...and just a lil sore around incision area..hope this helps
C-section was worse for me. I had my WLS lap and recovery was very easy. I had a pain pump in the hospital, took meds first night home and that was it. I did go through some exhaustion from week 3-8 due to not getting in enough nourishment. I also had some nausea issues early out.

You will be just fine!
C-Section was soooooooooooooooooo much worse that Lap RNY! If they could figure out how to deliver a baby laproscopically, that would be awesome!! I would have at least 5 more kids! HA!
The pain for my c-section, I would rate a 10... RNY, maybe a 3-4. The worse part was the gas the next day, but other than that it was easily controlled with tylenol with codeine.

I've had more abdominal surgeries then I can count, including 2 c sections, a hysterectomy, a lap WLS and an open WLS and to tell you the truth all I can remember is the first time I had abdominal surgery it was pretty bad but after that it really wasn't too bad as far as pain. In all surgeries I was up and driving and taking care of my kids and house as soon as I got home from the hospital, except my open revision. That took a lot out of me but a lot has to do with the bad condition I was in going in.
I had no help with any of my surgeries except the revision my daughter was here but I did more taking care of her then vice versa.
If you surgery is lap then you will feel better then you expect. Recovering from the anesthesia is harder then the surgery.
If you do have to have an open surgery it still won't be that terrible pain wise. Much less then the c section since that was your first surgery.

Thanks sooo much for posting this!! I was worried about the same thing...I am still pre op, but hopefully should be having my surgery in the next month and a half or so and I have had 3 c sections and a surgery (while prego) to remove my ovary and a tumor (36 staples going down my stomach) and none of that was really that bad...so, I am hoping this is the same :)
I had a Csection in 2007 and RnY in 2010. The surgery them selves are simlar. I think the bigger incision from the C-section was harder to deal with. The getting around b/c of all the small holes, eating and exercising after RnY was more difficult.
C section you have staples, RnY, you have these little pieces of tape holding you closed.
Pros and Cons to each one, but you can handle it. :)
