Many insurance companies don't have a pre-set amount.  I looked at AETNA's requirements, and there is no set weight loss.    It is important not to gain, and to start to change your eating habits now, and start exercising.  That will benefit you for surgery.

My insurance didn't have a set amount. I honestly didn't even try very hard.. I just changed a few things in my diet and somehow lost 20 pounds.

My insurance company didn't require anything either .... are you sure its not just the dr wants to see if u have teh will power to do this?
I've been following the post op diet since august first and i've only lost about 12 lbs. Very discouraging to me. I wi**** were more.

They're not looking for a specific amount, or for you to even lose weight! They're just looking that you "Attempted" weight loss and wern't successful. A lot of doctors will just sign off on it because it's just a way for the insurance companies to make it hard for people to not get the surgery.

Thanks for all your thoughts on it. Yea, I know it's actually the insurance company and not the doctor because I spoke with them directly to make sure of all the requirements to be approved. I've lost like 14 so far, but have had trouble this last month. We'll see what they say!

Hey Michelle, I saw that you're bummed about 12 lbs on the post op diet. Don't be!! Any loss before surgery is great, and will only get better once you're on this side of the hospital bed.

My insurance asked us to lose 10% of our starting weight so I had to lose 24 lbs Hubby had to lose 34.. I am not sure what the are requiring of you. They ask us to lose weight to shrink our liver. Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey.
Good Luck, Lisa
