Has anyone else been told this?

I cannot even tell you how many times I have been asked if I'm going to leave my husband "when I'm all hot and sexy and skinny." And if these people aren't asking me this question, they're TELLING my husband that that's how it's going to be. I haven't even had the surgery yet!

Now I was able to laugh this off the first few times I heard it, but now it's really starting to **** me off. I mean, how am I supposed to take that? It's offensive that all these people (who are my hubby's FAMILY members no less!) think so little of me that I would just up and leave once I lose the weight. I'm getting really upset that they think that I could just up and leave after I lose the weight because I'm only with my hubby because he's the best I could get being fat like I am. Yeah, me marrying him had absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that I love him or anything! GRR....

Has anyone else gone through this? If so, what did you say to people when they said these things? I need to know because it's gotten to the point where I feel like I need to defend myself. It's not feeling like a joke anymore and honestly, I don't think I can continue to bru**** off and NOT say anything.

On a brighter note, I should be getting my new surgery date early next week, so I only have to get through this weekend before I hear about that. I'm still praying that nothing comes up to postpone me a second time. In the meantime, I have been trying to watch what I eat (while we're on a very limited budget) and have been exercising for an hour twice a week at the gym. Feeling pretty good! :)

I REALLY BELIEVE THAT'S IGNORANT IF YOU DON'T MIND ME SAYING SO.  HAVE YOU EVER GIVEN THEM ANY CLUE THAT YOU WERE UNHAPPY OR UNSATISFIED IN YOUR MARRIAGE?  IF NOT WHY WOULD THEY BE ASKING YOU SUCH AN IGNORANT THING.  I WOULD CONFRONT THEM AND ASK THEM WHY THEY WOULD ASK THAT QUESTION AND SET THE STORY STRAIGHT.  YOU KNOW PEOPLE NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE OR HOW CLOSE YOU THINK THEY MAYBE AR ALL FULL OF SURPRISES, AND AS TIME GOES ON MORE WILL BE REVEALED.

I agree...maybe they are just "kidding" but those comments are a little cruel (in my opinion).

My MIL asked me if I was going to leave her son when I told her I was going to get the surgery. However, our situation is a little different. My husband's first wife had the surgery then she DID leave him!

So, logically, my husband has some reservations about me having this surgery, but he knows I am nothing like his previous wife (other than being fat LOL), and he knows in his heart that I wouldn't leave him. I make sure that we talk about our feelings about this surgery, and that he is as apart of this as in anything in our marriage.

I have told his family that there was no way in hell that I would be leaving him. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I know that won't change whether I wear a 36 or a 6!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY DATE AND KEEP US POSTED!    I THINK MAYBE THESE PEOPLE NEED A LITTLE REMINDER OF THE REAL VALUES OF MARRIAGE AND WHY WE GET MARRIED IN THE FIRST PLACE.  I KNOW SOME MAY PROBABLY FEEL THEY ARE JUST GOOFING AROUND, BUT THEY NEED TO KNOW THAT IT IS MAKING YOU UPSET.   GO AHEAD, TELL EM' HOW YOU FEEL AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL REALIZE HOW FOOLISH THEY HAD BEEN.

I was told this a couple of times.
My response was, "I'm going to become the trophy wife he deserves".

Umm, I wonder if they are thinking that your hubby will not be up to snuff anymore.   Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Been there - done that...I heard that the first time around (first WLS and now ex-husband) from his family.  Yes I got skinnier, but he got sleezier (cheated and had a kid with another woman with an affair of 10 years I didn't learn about until I started feeling better about myself - the anieties about what he was doing backfired because he started get jealous of the attention I was getting due to wls).  Long story short, I'm now happy re-married and have been divorced from the dumb **** for three years now.  Did it have to do with my weight loss?  Yes and No...I ended up regaining all the weight and STILL left his sorry ass...okay this isn't a good subject for me...(there was abuse and other stuff going on too)...

It does happen...and yes, people can and are asses.  Don't bru**** off - be honest.  It bothered me at first too although I was looking through rose colored glasses...I should have examed why they were saying it to begin with (he was the problem...okay off I go again into self-centered past lives that I don't need to re-live - sorry :)

You sound like you love your husband very much and have a good marriage...fight for it and him - tell them to go to hell and quit making asseine statements :-)...my two cents worth
