How Many Meals/How Much?

1.  I eat about six times most day.  Sometimes five, sometimes seven.

2.  I eat about a cup of food at a time, maybe a little more, maybe a little less, depending on what I'm eating.

3.  This was what my dietician and surgeon both recommended, but it is also what works best for me.  If they had told me to just eat three times a day, I would have tried that, but it would not have worked and I would have ended up doing this anyway.

4.  I do protein shakes occasionally.  It's been a long time I've done more than one in a day and I don't do them every day.  I do them if I'm low on protein for the day, or if maybe I don't feel so good and don't feel like eating, and sometimes just 'cause I like them.  My surgeon encouraged patients to use protein shakes for life, but it makes no sense to me to use them if I get enough protein from food and feel like eating food instead of drinking a shake.  I know some docs discouraged their use, and that makes no sense to me either, if people are having trouble getting protein from food or if they just like their shakes.

Thank you Kelly, that was very helpful!! Looks like the amount I am consuming (when listening to my body) is average (I too, do about a cup give or take depending on WHAT it is). Thanks again for your answer...I appreciate it!

Hi Kelly, just out of curiosity how do you get all your fluids in if you wait an hour after eating 5 or 6 times a day? My husband just suggested I eat more often today because I can only eat about 2 bites at each meal, but I couldn't fathom waiting an hour to drink 5 or 6 times. I would have a VERY hard time getting my fluid in. Thanks

I normally only wait about 30 minutes, not an hour.
