gall bladder issue? vitamin e ?

Hi everyone!

I sometimes get a burning sensation in my "gut" area, more in the middle than to either side. Sometimes after I eat I get an all over abdomen cramping, not like I'm going to be sick, just pain! And not food being stuck, I know how that feels, intimately. Could that be gall bladder? No nausea, btw.

My surgeon suggested extra vitamin e for hair loss. All I can find are gellcaps at the store. Is that a waste of money?

Thank you!!

I take a vitamin E supplement, but not for any hair loss.  Any supplement in a softgel won't be absorbed well. The only softgel I'd recommend would be fish oil or flaxseed oil for dry skin issues.  I buy a dry E from Puritan Pride vitamins online, and it's not very expensive.  Nothing will prevent hair loss. It happens to some degree to most post ops.  The hair will grow back, and Biotin will likely help with hair regrowth.  DAVE

If the pan on your abdomen continues, contact your surgeon as ask for an ultrasound. It very well could be your gallbladder. But if it isn't it is a good starting point.

Yes, the pain could definitely be from your gallbladder.  I never had any nausea when mine was acting up.  A simple ultrasound will usually give you an asnwer about that.

I have never read or hear anything about ANY kind of hair-related benefits from vitamin e.  Circulation, respiration, skin, even brain function, but nothing about hair.  There is nothing that will prevent the telogen effluvium that is the hair loss associated with WLS.  Some people will lose more or less than others, but you cannot prevent it.  Not getting ENOUGH protein post-op, however, can make it WORSE than it otherwise would have been.
