How does the pouch stretch?
I was reading on another forum about a bypass patient who just had an endocscopy that revealed a pouch that had stretched to "half the size of a soda can". Is this a normal size (3 years out) I know it gets bigger and can hold a cup or so of food.
I think It sounded like she thought her pouch was too big. I think there is some disagreement on how big the pouch can get and it's causes. I'm just wondering how big my pouch should get later on. I think it's supposed to max out at one year.
I was told it would get bigger. What causes it to get bigger and can you make it too big? HOw? I know carbonation doesn't make it bigger but can cause irritation. So is it just over filling it with dense food? Wouldn't that make you throw up rather than stretch the pouch?

So he thinks that the amount you can eat right after surgery is the amount you'll always be limited to? When I first started pureed foods, I ate three small spoonsfuls of mashed potatoes. Now, I could eat a cup of mashed potatoes easily. How could I do that if my pouch had not stretched a bit?

Yeah, it's supposed to stretch some.
I can easily eat a cup of most things. That is about half the size of a soda can, isn't it?
I've been told it's pretty rare for it to stretch more than it should but that overeating on a regular basis can do it. I think it would depend on how much you overate. Like, if I eat a few bites too much, I feel a little uncomfortable. I don't throw up. But if I ate more than a few bites too much, I think I would throw up. So I guess I would have to gradually increase the amount I ate and pretty much always eat until the point of feeling pretty uncomfortable but not so much that it came back up.

I am around 3 and a half months out and can eat a cup of reg food, but if I eat dense meat like chicken or steak I can only eat about about a half cup of the meat cut up with a few bites of veggies. According to what I have read about with others who can only eat 2-3 ozs at this stage, I am eating to much. I may need to talk with my nut about it.
