Toning up after WLS

I posted this on the exercise site, but no response as of yet. so I figured I'd try here as well!!

I have lost 45 of the 80 pounds I would like to lose.  I have always been somewhat active--going to the gym 4-5 days a week, doing both cardio and weights.  I am blessed with toned legs, but the arms are starting to continue to wave after I stop!!  And while the belly isn't too bad, it could use some help as well. I  I  by no means think I will need surgery for the excess skin. I would like to tone up with exercise.

Wondering what advise anyone may have to accomplish this.  Have you been successful in toning and tightening up just through exercise?  If so, what kinds?  If not, what did you do?

Thanks in advance!

Shannon

There is hope for that skin - but only a little hope....lol.

I have lost nearly 200 pounds and I must say that my skin isnt as bad as it could be.  I started lifting weights and doing circuit training about 3 months ago and my body looks great!!!  My waist is super small  and my legs are getting firmer by the second.  My arms lookk  50% better because I actually have muscles that show when my arms are folded.  If you are not in the running for plastics I would recommend do some weight lifting i.e. military presses, bicep curls...etc.  I normally to 4 sets of 25 for everything with my arms. And my arms get a work out around 3 times a week.  Don't focus on your arms daily just take it slow.
Just a few more steps to wonderland......and believe me I am taking baby steps (ugh).

 Hi Shannon,
My surgeon told me that exercise cannot help shrink up extra skin...so that is kindof unfortunate. LOL But, exercise does help us to look much better regardless. The skin just takes time to hopefully shrink up and adjust.
But, as far as toning goes, I find that aerobics classes at the gym are really helpful in pushing me to work harder. When I do weights on my own, I'm tempted to do a few reps and quit, so I mainly just go to the weight training classes taught by an instructor, where I have to do a full hour LOL. I find that it has helped me tone up.

i have yo yo dieted for 30 years so my poor skin has lost all elasticity!  my arms got a bit better and the "turkey gobble" thing" on my neck is gone but the legs and stomach are awful.  well, the tummy is awesome now (tummy tuck) but my thighs are really bad!

i will say that running has helped me lose in a way that i've never lost before.  my legs are smaller than they've been in a long long time...but....the skin still sags!

I'm with you.  Everything is sagging.  My legs and arms are smaller than ever but this skin thing is dragging me down.  If I could lose the extra skin on my abdomin area, I would be probably 2 sizes smaller.  I simply can't afford plastics so I suppose that I will just sag and be happy!
