My incisions sites itch soooo bad. I know this is a good thing because it's indicative of all the healing going on, but is there something I could use to get some relief from the itching? I don't want to scratch and risk accidentally tearing away some of the surgical glue or tearing open my skin and risking infection.

I had extremely bad itching (ended up with hives over my entire body) and the only thing that worked was ice.... I used ice packs on my tummy for about two weeks until the steroids to stop the allergic reaction did the trick.

My mantra in teh first two weeks following surgery was: Ice is nice, Ice is nice, Ice is very very nice!

Put bandaids on your incision sites so you don't scratch them (I also put on polysporin). I had a need to itch all over my body after surgery for about 3 weeks! Thought I would go insane, but it stopped.

I put triple antibiotic on them. It helped for a while. And I kept my binder on to stop from scratching my inscisions open.

DO NOT use Poly or Neosporin!! My surgeon said that it kills all the good, healing bacteria. Use cortisone or Arnica AROUND the incision sites, never right on them. I used both of these and it did wonders. I also don't recommend bandaids of any kind once the surgitape/glue falls off - the skin around your incisions will be VERY tender and bandaids will rip of that delicate skin when they come off (as happened to me) - leaving more to heal...

I kept my surgical tape on and put the bandaids overtop.

My Dr also said no neosporin or bandaids. I would call and ask your Dr what you should do. His/Her protocal may be different but my Dr wanted my incisions to dry out and not be moist.

You may be having an allergic reaction to the bandages;  are you sensitive to steristrips?  Some
folks are.  You might need to ask your surgeon if you can change them to a different bandage.

If it's within the skin and the incision, I've always found that indirect soothing helps;  try gently
rubbing the area around the incision, it may sooth the itching a little.

Good luck!

I don't have any bandages or steri-strips. My surgeon doesn't want me to wear them.

I only use a bandaid to cover one of my incisions because it's the only one that needed to be stitched up and it's right under my bra line so if I don't cover, the sutures snag... but as soon as I get home and no longer require a bra that bandaid comes off.

The rest of my incisions were closed with surgical glue which is starting to come off. As of right now, all I'm doing is gently scratching in the vicinity of my incisions but not right on them.

I will call my surgeon Monday to see what his preference/protocol is on this. Thanks for all the suggestions, though! You guys are awesome!! :)
