Colonoscopy tomorrow

Talula, thank you so much. Makes me feel a lot better. I just hope i don't wake up at all during the procedure because even if i can't feel anything, I think I might panic. I woke up one time during an outpatient procedure where they used the "twilight sleep" and although I could not feel anything, I was freaked the hell out! There was a breathing mask over my face and I am claustrophobic so that panicked me, plus my arms were tied down and I could not move and there was a big blue tarp over my head. I tried to move to take the mask off my face and they were all like "don't move, don't move, we'll be done in 5 minutes." I told the anesthesiologist that I could not breathe (felt like I couldn't anyways). He was kinda nasty IMO because he said, of course you can breathe, it's just an oxygen mask. I told him I felt like I couldn't breathe. I kept telling him to take the mask off and to get that thing off my head/face. (I'm sure I was a lovely patient) LOL It was the longest 5 minutes of my life. I know it probably sounds silly but I felt traumatized by the whole ordeal. Maybe that is why I am freaking out so bad about this colonoscopy. By the way, what is a johnny?

I have had numerous colonoscopies and you will be fine.  I was awake entirely for my first one (I already knew I had colon cancer and I guess needed to see how bad it was so didn't sleep through it), but not any others.  I just had one recently.  I would recommend you go easy with dense foods for about a day or so when you can eat again.  My pouch seemed to "tighten up" after 48 hours of no food and needed time to relax.  No food got stuck, but it was unfortable eating because the food just wasn' t moving from my pouch.  The day after that I was fine so my theory is it just needed a day of softer foods to readjust.  Good Luck!

Thanks Michele, so sorry to hear you had colon cancer. That's why I am being checked, becuz it runs in my family and I had 2 forms of cancer at a young age that are related. When you had the one where you were awake, did it hurt?

Oh Michele thats horrible.  I hope all is ok with you now?  good vibes to you...

I had a colonscopy too and i was scared.  I have IBS so going to the bathroom 4 or 5 times for me (preop) wasn't surprising.  And the magnesium citrate makes me sick...so i do what i can to drink it and hope i get cleaned up good.  lol I was one that woke up during my surgery and KNOW it hurt but..they knocked me out as quickly as it took for me to wake up.  So someone is there to watch you  and the whole process doesn't take long.  I didn't have any problems when i got up but i had a normal stomach when i had it done..lol  Good luck and will be thinking of you...and know you will do fine!!
