I have come to realize that the proteins shakes are causing my nausea.  No matter how I  make them, either with milk or with water.  I loved the unjury chocolate and vanilla preop and even post op but after about 1 week I started get nauseous during/after drinking them.  I stopped for 2 days and was only having broth, diet snapple, and water and I felt fine. Today I realized I haven't lost anything for the last 3 days so I knew I had to go back to my proteins so I did.  UGH!!! I literally had to stop myself from throwing up and I am still nauseous and it has been hours. Anybody have any ideas as to how else I can meet my daily protein target without the shakes? I start soft/puree foods in 2 days so I need advise for the next 2 days and beyond that. Thanks

Are you on full liquids now?  Greek yogurt is a good source of protein.  However, I think you'll have a hard time for at least a few more weeks without any protein supplement.  Have you tried a different brand to see if you tolerate that better?

I have tried designer whey and that makes me gag too. I am on full liquids.  Am I able to have the greek yogurt? I don't have a problem with that and would even add unflavored protein to up the protein.

Yogurt is usually considered a full liquid.

Are you on any type of acid reducer? Ex: Prilosec or nexium
I was really nauseous with the first protein I tried. I love isopure Dutch chocolate and it doesn't make me sick. You might want to call and talk to your dietician to see if theyhave more ideas. Isopure also makes a premade fruit drink. They aren't horrible but they do leave the protein taste

I'm having the same problem, I'm a little over a week out and everthing sweet (except popsicles and sugar free apple sauce) tastes like formaldehyde. I can't stand the smell let alone the taste. I've tried Nectar Lemonade Stand and unflavored protein and they both taste horrible. Adding the unflavored to anything doesn't help me. My doctor gave me permission to try eggs, cottage cheese, and string cheese just to get something in me because I'm not eating otherwise. I hope once I "graduate" to soups and puree's I'll be able to add the unflavored and start actually eating.  Even water tastes "off" to me some how. I hope that you can make it through this though.
Good luck to you!

I do take nexium, but I thought that was for heart burn/acid reflux. Thanks Kelly, I thought it was considered soft food. Has anyone tried crystal light with unflavored protein powder maybe? I will def try the yogurt tomorrow. I have an appointment on Tuesday with my surgeon so I will definitely ask them about this as well.

Please keep trying samples of different proteins until you find one that you can tolerate. What I couldn't stand in my first week...I can now tolerate. I like the Atkins RTD Dark Chocolate Royale (I usually cannot stand any type of chocolate drink ) I can't handle any of the vanilla ones at all. (yet lol) The Atkins RTD are not the highest in protein but at least they'll give you something.

Have you tried non-whey proteins? (Soy, egg white protein, etc.?) It might be that you are sensitive to whey.

My bariatric nurse recommends IsoPure drinks.  They come in several flavors, look like a clear colored drink (like KoolAid) and are really quite tasty.  They don't have that aftertaste (at least for me).  I got mine at Vitamin Shoppe.
