OT: euthanized my cat today

I've been blogging about this for the past few days but I hope that this post strikes a chord with others. Today we ended our Princess's suffering and finally conquered the cancers that have plagued her for the past year. I hope she's with our family that's gone before, getting lots of love and petting. I have faith that she's waiting for us somewhere and died knowing she'd been loved & cared for by two pet-parents who miss her profoundly.
We're looking forward to meeting with the grief counselor tomorrow & joining a pet-loss support group soon. This is pain beyond anything we imagined.

Oh, I'm so sorry.  I have been in your shoes before and it's so hard to know if you made the right choice or if you did it at the right time and there's that guilty feeling that your baby trusted you and you couldn't save her.  I really do believe that those that go before us are there waiting for us when it's our turn.  I used to work for a hospice and I've been with many people at the end and I had so many clients that would begin talking to loved ones that went before them at the end.  They saw their mothers or husbands or sisters or whomever.  So I believe our loved ones are there waiting for us, so Princess is with people that love her now and she is waiting for you.

I parted with my baby Tasha in May, so I know exactly how you feel.  I am so sorry for your loss... we're never quite ready for that time when our babies have to leave us.

Take care of yourself and yours...

I'm so sorry hun! In 2007 my parents had to put our family dog down because she had real cancer. From diagnosis to that horrible day she only lasted 3 ish months. I didn't even get to say goodbye. I feel your pain. How long did you have her? She is in a better place now and not in pain anymore. I don't know if it will help you or not but after my dog died I took my favorite picture of her and framed it and Hung her collar from a corner, kinda like a memorial. It helped me to look at her when she was healthy and happy and think of the good times.

Hang in there!

we had her for 8.5 years - she was the best companion & a joy to us. We're having the pet cremation place make a plaque of her pawprint with a picture & a lock of hair, and her urn has a black cat on it. Thank you for your thoughts!

When my cat Eileen died about five years ago, we had her cremated.  They told me her ashes would be in the urn in a plastic bag and I didn't really like the idea of her being in a plastic bag.  I made a bag for the ashes.  I used a piece of her favorite blanket that she always liked to sleep on but it wasn't very pretty and I wanted something pretty, so I had a piece of cloth I really liked and I made a bag with the pretty cloth on the outside and her blankie on the inside.  I was really afraid to open the urn and see her ashes, though.  I just thought it would be too hard.  So it was almost five years before I actually put the ashes in the bag I made, then put them back in the urn.

I am so sorry!  I know that is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, and my kitty was almost 20 years old.  She is in a far better and happier place now.  Take care...and it does sound like you are taking care of yourself in the best ways possible.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is a very hard thing to do. I have been there before when I had to put my dog down. She was my baby and I had had her for 15 1/2 years. It is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I believe they know how we feel and that we did it to end their suffering. Take comfort in knowing that your Princess Is no longer suffering and she is in Heaven waiting for you. Again, my deepest sympathies to you.
