No protein shakes yet?

A well known plastic surgeon speaks to our support group once a year. He stresses the importance of protein for the healing process. He has all of his patients consume 100g of protien shakes daily for the 30 days prior to surgery. He says he can tell which patients followed his recommendation. Those that heal slowly, have a lot of pain, and complain are those that did NOT do shakes.  Be sure to ask.  BTW, don't buy the large economy size jugs of protein powder.  New post ops have difficulties finding a protein flavor they like.  I still use the generic unflavored whey isolate protein powder I found.  I add it to oatmeal most days during the winter, increase protein in ready made shakes, add it to SF pudding, etc.  Good luck. Be sure to ask about protein on Wed.  DAVE

Thanks Dave! I think I'm gonna go your route too and use the plain powder. My nutrionist gave me a whole thing of liquid recipes to use it in. I had heard too many people complain of taste changing..thankfully mine haven't yet! Thanks for posting!

My surgeon recommends clear liquids only for the first week.  Weeks 2-3 Clears but add protein.  Weeks 4-7 Full liquids with protien.  Weeks 8-10 Pureed with protein.  Weeks 10-12 Soft with protein and then FINALLY real food.....it's gonna be a LONG journey :)
