I have been reading a lot from people in younger age groups and hoping this will work out.  I haven't seem anything for those in my age group.  I am 62 years old and will turn 63 before I have the surgery.  Is there anyone out there in my category that can fill me in on how things went for them?  I don't have a support person.  My husband has no tolerance for weight issues.  My  only friends were my co-workers, and since I retired last March I don't see them much.  I know they would be supportive.  I chose the Roux-en-Y because I have over 100 pounds to lose.  I was afraid the Gastric Sleeve wouldn't give me the results I am after.  Am I just worrying too much?

I was 52 when I had my revision last year so I'm not exactly a spring chicken.  I have had a lot of surgeries in my life and this was no worse then any of them even though I had an open incision.
I have seen many people in their 50s and 60s here so stick around I am sure you will meet some.
Does your surgeon have a support group?  If not maybe you can look around and see if their is one in your town.  That is a great way to meet people who are going through the same things you are.
You probably are worrying too much but don't we all?  It is the unknown after all.  You will do great!

I'm 57 and have done wonderful.  No problems with the surgery or after.  Very little pain, more like soreness, and that was with a hiatal hernia repair.

Barbara, I can't tell you how it went but I'll be glad to tell you how it goes. I'm 65 and will be having an rny on November 29th (just moved up from December 6th). This follows a lap band removal 6 years ago so I coud be in for more problems though my surgeon says the EGD didn't show any problems left over from the lap band. Neither he nor I are epecting any problems related to my age. I had two total knee replacement surgeries when I was 62 and didn't have any problems recovering from them. I feel that I have recovered easily from all my surgeries and hope that will be the same for this one, also.

I, also don't have a large support group so I would be happy to be your friend through this process.

Where do you live in CA? We lived in Morgan Hill for several years.

Hi Barbara.  I am 56 and was 54 when I had surgery.  I have seen more than a few on this site that are your age or close to it when they had surgery.  I too chose the RNY for the same reasons you did.  This site is a wonderful place to come for support and for information.  I too am retired, and I don't drive.  Consequently the only support I had was this site and my family.    Because of your limied support I would utilize the support group your clinic offers, if any, and search out other groups that may exist in your area.  Also come here for support.  I lived on this site for hours and hours each day, and I always learned something valuable from someone...the pre-ops, post-ops and veterans.  I searched topics and read from all the forums.  There is a lot of valuable information here.  I wish you the very best and great success on your journey.
