I think it is one of those things that varies for everyone.  I had surgery on 10/17 and I had diarrhea for a little over a week and now I have a BM once or twice a week.

Yeah it's crazy, I went 4 to 5 times a day before surgery. I had my first bowel movement the day after surgery and I go atleast 1 times a day sometimes 2 times a day. I don't know why I go more often than everyone else.

I thought I was crazy as everyone else seems to go all the time.  My surgery was 11/8 and I was in pain from constipation.  I finally was successful and now I am just praying I don't get "bunched up" again!

Had my RNY 3/22/11. The first time that 3 days went by without having a movement I started taking Miralax 17Gms./day. I then added 1 TBSP. of Benefiber to my daily schedule. Have been going every day since.

some people take stool softeners, some people eat yogurt daily, some take probiotics, some drink really hot coffee every morning.

Early out you aren't exactly getting a lot of fiber in. Oh yeah, some people add Benefiber to stuff.

Between what you aren't eating, the calcium, and the iron, you need to figure out what works for you.

Embarassing to talk about but true.

And fat, us RNY types don't eat too much fat! good luck!

As others have said, fiber additive to your drink and you can buy stool softner to help you along.
Good luck !

The same thing happended to me.  My surgery was 10/5/11.  I went back to the surgeon and he put me back on a liqud diet for 2 days, colace 2 x a day and mirlax once a day.  Well after the third day it worked.  I still take 2 colace a day and mirlax once a day, and I have been regular every day.  I had my 6 week post op today and the PA  told me to continue that.  She also mentioned that the benefiber and other high fiber foods, sometimes tend to bulk it up instead of softening.  Everyone is different, so I would sugges you call your surgeon.
Good luck!!

I used to have a bm after every meal. Now I never have one unless I take stool softeners. Then I can have one every three to five days. Depressing.

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!
