What does your TRUE hunger feel like?
I have a question for you. I had a lapband done on April 19, 2010 and on Sept 1, 2011 I had all of my fluid removed from my band because it has slipped down. not up. and I currently have a surgery date of Nov. 25 to a gastric bypass. I was just wondering if you had any problems with the surgery. My doc said I may have to have a feeding tube for a month because the chance of leaking is more because of the damage the band may have done. Just wondering how things went.
Ummmm...I don't know. Honestly. Even at four years I don't know what hunger is SUPPOSED to feel like. I know when my body is food deprived. Which I guess is hunger. I feel weak and vacant, a bit shaky and light headed.
But I eat on a schedule. So I don't feel hunger often. I don't LET myself get to the point where I've waited so long to eat that I feel hunger.
For the record, I am in the process of doing an investigative piece for Bariatric Foodie on hunger. It is, by my estimation, one of the most confusing aspects of post-op life. Look for it in December!

At over 4 years out, I still don't have any physical signs of hunger.
I do have what is obvious head hunger -- an urge to snack out of boredom or stress (and I am pretty good at recognizing the psychological component of it) -- but the only physical reaction I get to a lack of food is related to hypoglycemia (regular, not reactive). When I go for a very long period of time without eating -- about 6-8 hours (I normally eat 6-7 times per day, so that's about every 3-4 waking hours) -- I suddenly become very shaky, dizzy, and sometimes nauseous. I had this very mildly before surgery, but it is much more pronounced now.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
At 7 months out I have yet to feel any hunger well other then head hunger. I know one day it iwll come back but I am ok with it taking a long time to do so.

I actually just posted a topic of my :hunger" feeling. If I dont eat something evert few hours..I actually feel a twingeful pain that I am assuming is a hunger pain...because when they hit..and I eat a little snack, they seem to disappear. So it seems like I eat /drink breakfast at 6:30...then something at 9:30..then something about 12:30...then lunch at 3 and then supper at 6:30...usually I am good after supper without until I go to bed at about 9. If I dont eat when they hit...they can become bad.
It's good that you listen to your body!
It also amazes me how different we all are. If I ignore my hunger signals...my body sort of just deals. In fact, I get LESS hungry (or further away from what one might consider hunger) if I push through it and don't eat, which is dangerous knowledge. Thankfully I have never been prone to anorexic behavior. If that ever changes I would seek out help because it is entirely possible for me to go a full day without eating without many ill effects.
Drinking? That's a whole other story!
