I did RNY because I was/am a diabetic. From my research bypassing the duadeum helps with putting diabetes into remission. Btw I don't take my metformin or my blood pressure medication or cholesterol. I am revision from lap band. I need the restriction is key.

I am currently at 130 lbs 10 pounds below goal weight!

Thanks for the info, and thankful to God I don't have diabetes cholesterol, or any major health problems, so I was lucky to be overweight with no sinificant health problems, but I have a post on both bords and I will weigh out all of my options. Thanks again it really means alot!

While my insurance doesn't cover the sleeve, my main reason for not considering it was the lack of long term studies on it and the fact that it is completely irreversable in case something went wrong, you'd never get back that part of  your stomach that they took out.

Hey girly how are you doing?? I miss ya! Well I never thought about the fact that my stomach will be gone forever lol!! I have the same post on the sleeve board and they said that I can switch to Rny or the DS, but see that is just it, I don't want to be having multiple surgeries I just want to be done with this and live my life! So I think I am leaning more towards RNY! I will keep you posted!

Personally, I chose the RNY because of some of the reasons you stated. I love fast food, subs, fried chicken etc. I knew if I could eat them without getting sick I would. Now I dump on chicken no matter how its cooked which is not fun but I know this will keep me away from fried foods. Today was the first time I have had any fast food and I am 10 weeks post op. I had the egg and meat out of a breakfast sandwich and it really did not taste good to me. I wont be doing that again thats for sure it wasnt worth it to me. I knew I would need the restrictions and possiblity of dumping to keep me in line. Good luck with your decision

Thanks for  that  Windim and I think that is what I needed to hear!! I think I need a WLS that is going to make not want that kind of stuff any more! I do believe with the sleeve you can still eat pretty much of everything you ate Pre op, and I don't need to take that chance! Thanks your comment helped me alot!

I am 8 months out and I can eat anything and I could right from the start so I wouldn't get the surgery based on the hope that you can't eat the things you love because most likely you will be able to. I chose the RNY over any other surgery because I was over 300 lbs and needed the malabsorption to help me lose 200 lbs in hopefully 1.5 yrs and I think my best chance of reaching that goal is with the RNY. I'm not a grazer I'm a large portion person so the restriction is just what I need to stop me from eating things but I think the malabsorption is the only thing that's going to get 200 lbs off me. Good luck with your decision

I'm sorry, but no such surgery exists!  NO matter WHICH surgery you have, you must have the willpower to change what you eat.  YOU have to do that... the surgery will not do it for you.  Only 30% of RNY people dump on sugars/carbs, but even those who do still often crave those things anyway.  (Some eat them anyway, even knowing that they will probably regret it later.) MANY people with RNY (like me) can eat almost anything they could eat before surgery (in moderate amounts) without getting sick.

I second.

I am struggeling after a year now with eating carbs and sugars'I can tolerate a certain amount and get very sleepy after eating them. if I eat to much of them I get sickly but this does not -alas- deter me from eating them :-(

I never knew the mental struggle of sugar addiction would be this bad.

I do not regret my RNY, with a VSG I might not have lost all the 150 pounds that I have. But certainly do not chose it because you reckon you will dump and stay away from it. I only wish that worked :-)

In full disclosure I want to say that I had a sleeve as part of my first surgery.  The surgeon made it way too large and before long I could eat as much as I could before surgery.  One of the reasons I decided to go with the RNY pouch.  I wanted as much restriction as possible.  I am not sorry I had it instead of being resleeved.  I just don't trust that it won't still stretch out more.  And the fact that I dump does help keep me on the straight and narrow, even though I have given up eating sugar anyway.  More incentive to stay away from it.
