Surgery was 10 weeks ago on Tues.  Lost 25 pounds since day of surgery.  My fitness pal last 4 weeks.  average calories 1000, average carbs 50, average protein 50.  why am I not losing?

People lose at different rates.  I note you're not getting that much protein, though.  Try increasing it.

Are you getting much exercise?

What does your surgeon think about your weight loss?  Your dietician?

Increase the protein, lower the carbs.

Saw Dr. and nut at 5 weeks out, said I was doing well.  That was 5 pounds ago.  Yes I am struggling with protein.  I cannot stand the protein drinks, I make them, take a drink or two and just can't do more.  Not much exercise, one new knee and other one was hoping to not neet to replace but it is acting up badly, also a hip problem.  Seeing ortho next week.  Sadly our local pool is down with a busted boiler.  So having trouble with exercise, get about 2 days a week 20 mins. on recumbant bike.  Is that the problem?  I know we all lose differently but I am getting pretty discouraged.

It's likely those two things are the problems.

If you don't like protein drinks, you'll need to eat food with more protein.  Otherwise, you'll need to drink some protein drinks even though you don't like them.  I know it's hard - I was about three months out before I got enough protein.  After a whole lot of my hair fell out.

I don't think what your eating makes a difference, if you eat 1000 calories you will lose weight your body is just adjusting to the changes.Try to eat protein first, I hate shakes and at your stage got most of my protein from beef jerky, eggs, cheese, yogurt.   When I was 10 weeks I was eating 700-800 calories at 6 months I moved up to 1200 calories.

Thank you Kelly.  I value your opinion.  Will work on it.

Revision on 07/05/16
Our stories have similarities. My weight loss at 10 weeks post-op was 27 lbs. Due to an injured knee, my activity was decreased. This, I beleive, could be the reason for my slow weight loss. Also I've learned that the average weight loss for gastric bypass is 3-5 lbs/week for first 6 months. That makes my average 2.7 lbs/week which is a little below the average. I don't think that's bad considering my decreased activity. I also get in about 800 calories, 80+g protein, and 80+oz fluids daily. My knee surgery was 11-7-11 and I am going through physical therapy.

thanks shebamom.  Needed to hear that.  I thot maybe I could not have to do the other knee if I would lose a fair amount of weight.  But the knee may simply be too far gone no matter what.  Good luck with your recovery.  That was the worst surgery I have ever had and really don't want to do it again.  (the knee replacement)
