FEELING STEPPED OVER!!!

Thanks for your comment boomerSooner1, and I know they are swamped I work in a hospital, and I have to make sure I follow threw with my patients request, because I know how important it is to them. I do not promise them something and do not follow threw with it, because I know how dissappointing that this is to them!  I have been very pleasant, and understanding to them, and I still will be pleasant when I ask do the other surgeon have a available date! I don't see nothing wrong with asking for something that you are entitled to have! If you don't speak up for your self  you will get looked over, and that is what's been going on! My pcp has not been following threw on there end, and my surgeon office have not been holding there promises. Far as me needing them more than they need me----Not True, and you should not ever feel that way! If you pay for health insurance you are paying for a service that you deserve to have, and you should be treated with respect and dignity! Now if I was recieving medical assistance, and the state was paying for everything I can see then maybe just excepting what they give me, but even then you are still entitled to get the best treatment! So if I can not get what I am entitled to get than I can go to another surgeon! That is why I pay for health insurance! Thanks for your concerns.

I understand your frustration, but it really shoudl be directed at your PCP not your surgeon's office. It is your PCP who screwed up. You also need to keep in mind that some days the surgeon (and the surgeon's staff qualified to review medical records) spend MUCH of their time dealing with people who have already HAD their surgery and call the office with problems or urgent questions that they need answers to, etc., and those people take priority (and SHOULD take priority) over situations like yours.

I am sure that once you have your surgery, you will expect them to first help you with any urgent issues (or any issues that YOU preceive or worry are urgent) before they review someone else's paperwork. If you are this angry now, can you imagine how angry you would be if you were to call them because you had been unable to keep anything down for 2 or 3 days and they did not call you bac****il the next day because they were busy reviewing the medical records of someone who was still trying to get approved for surgery...?

Thanks Lora and you are so right, I did not look at it that way, but I am already approved, and I am in need of a surgery date! I have did everything that was requested for me to do! I just want a date so I can plan my days off from work, and start preparing! Far as my PCP goes you are definitley right it is there fault, and I understand that, but my surgeon office has made promises that they are not upholding to as well! I just don't want to be looked over thats all! Thanks You did shed some light on this!

Trust me sweety in the long run a few weeks wont make a difference. When I was trying to get my surgery scheduled I rushed to get everything done on my part then had to wait 5 months for my procedure. A year and a half later it doesnt matter one bit that I had to wait, all that matters is that I got the surgery at all! Good luck with your journey!!

Here's what I think.  I think you were disappointed that your surgeon wanted to schedule you for the beginning of January instead of the middle of December and annoyed with your PCP for not having faxed the stuff they should have faxed, and I think you are overreacting a bit to your disappointment and frustrating.  You are certainly entitled to your feelings, whatever they are, and I don't mean to say that your feelings are wrong.  But I think your reaction to wanting to chance surgeons may be a bit excessive.

Have you generally been happy with your surgeon?  How do you know you like or trust the other surgeon in the office?  And while the other surgeon might have a surgery date two weeks sooner (because that's what you're disappointed about, having to wait an extra two weeks for surgery), you'd still have the same issues with the office staff and your PCP.  So if you're really that unhappy, you might want to change PCPs and change to another bariatric practice.  Which could set you back further than the beginning of January because even though you already have insurance approval, the new surgeon would probably want you to attend some pre op class at his office and might want some additional tests and stuff.

If you are really unhappy, then yeah, change.  But otherwise, try to put it all into perspective.

Do express your feelings, though.  I would tell the surgeon and his staff, politely, that you feel stepped over.  Learning to stand up for yourself is always a good thing!

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Hi Poet Kelly yes you are right, and I am overreacting a little bit because I was dissappointed in not getting a middle of Dec surgery date(that I was promised to get), but however my surgeon was nice when he explained everything to me, and I will be ok with the Jan date because I think it is other patients in his office who may be a higher priority than me! All I want is a definite date so I can plan my days off from work. I have been with my Pcp since I was a minor on my moms insur, so I am not going to change Pcp's and I think I just got to ask for my results before I leave the office and carry them with me, and no I am not changing surgeons, because I have came to far with my current one! Thanks for your help it really did help me PUT IT ALL IN PESPECTIVE! Oh yea I will express my feelings politely to my surgeon, and I feel everything will work out! Happy Thanksgiving Poet Kelly and take care!
