I have been craving salads. When can you start eating salads? This is the only craving I have had since my surgery.

i had a craving for a salad myself when i was about 6 weeks out, and i had a small iceberg lettuce salad with not much jazz, and some low balsamic vinegrette and it was awesome.. i eventally added a little diced chicken, and it was even better (jus****ch your eating speed and portions, as it gets masked easily)

Thanks have to wait a few more weeks. I love balsamic vinigers so I guess the wait is worth it. I used to love steak but no craving.

My #1 craving was salad followed by steak....when I was allowed solid foods I had a bit of those 2...romaine hearts...and filet mignon...tiny bites mind you....but, it was pure Heaven in my mouth.....chewing slowly now has it's advantages. I NOW actually TASTE my foods rather than wolfing them down.

Before, was chew chew swallow....Now, chew chew chew chew..(you get the picture)....swallow! So much more tasty!!

I guess I started eating salads around 2 months out when I was cleared to eat regular foods... Stay AWAY From Iceburg...It's rough on the system!

Get Organic Girl Spring Mix or Romaine Lettuce...Something that has SOFT leaves NOT crunchy.
No tomatoes, no nothing at first (and be CAREFUL of any dressings unless it is just plain vinegar! NO OIL****il you are further out. Even Sugar Free salad dressing can cause intestinal distress in someone so newly post op.

I made Good Seasonings dressing with just Vinegar and Water and ate my salad and was in HEAVEN! No problems at all.

Warmly,
Jackie

I was advised to wait about two months before eating raw veggies.  What does your dietician recommend?

Yeah, you should if you are not sure what you should be eating or when to advance your diet.

You should contact your dietician, I had an appointment at 1 month and I have another scheduled at three months.  I was told I could have salad and raw veggies when I moved to stage 4 diet.  My dietician told me to be very careful with the softer leaf lettuces because they can slide down whole without us being aware of it.  Still in keeping with the idea of smaller bites, I tear the greens up into small bites so I won't unknowingly do myself in with a spinach leaf.
I have eaten iceburg, romaine, green and red leaf and some butter lettuce.  I have felt no ill effects from the addition, and have even added some shredded carrot, radish, peppers and cucumber slices.  I also put lettuce and tomato in my soft taco....no problem there either.
Good luck, go slowly and add one new food at a time and you will be able to figure out what works for you.
