What's your exercise routine?

I was on swimteam for the majority of my childhood & teenage years, so I was excited to get back in the pool.  I started at 5 weeks post op, swimming for an hour.  The first day I swam 20 laps, within a week I was up to 64 laps (a mile), and now 4 weeks later I swim 6 days a week (all but Saturday) for an hour, I do 96 laps (1 1/2 miles).  I've added some gloves and training fins for resistance, and do a circuit so it's not just 96 laps of the same thing.  This week I've been adding some sprints and time challenges for myself.  After the new year starts I'll start some weight training a couple days a week.  I already had a good muslce base before surgery, so I've just concentrated on getting into the habit of going every morning & getting my endurance up.  On Saturdays, I take my step-daughter to the pool & play with her if it's her weekend with us and we also play the Kinect, and on the other Saturdays I get my exercise at the dog park and playing the Kinect.

I love swimming, so much more than walking or elliptical or anything like that.  It's a good mind clearing exercise, and I get a good feel for my body as it's changing.  I'm 9 weeks (10 on Monday) out from surgery.

Here's my workout schedule:

 Sunday: walk/jog 5 miles

Monday: walk/jog 3 miles, Zumba 1 hr, weight training sets

Tuesday: walk/jog 5 miles

Wednesday: Aqua Zumba 1 hr, weight training sets

Thursday: walk/jog 5 miles, swim 50 laps

Friday: walk/jog 3 miles, Zumba 1 hr, weight training sets

Saturday: walk/jog 3 miles

The key for me is to keep moving. I find I'm happier if I work out.

The key to being consistent in your exercise routine is to find something you enjoy, you don't have to enjoy the activity itself maybe how you feel after but you need to get something emotional from it.

Check out the exercise and fitness forum for ideas and join our daily workout threads to stay accountable.

If you join the forum don't let anyones miles or workouts intimidate you.  We view everyones workout no matter how short or long to be just as important as anyone elses.  The forum is also filled with some huge success stories on people adopting exercise and totally changing their lives.

I walk a few laps around a small track at the local Y to warm up, then I do 2 miles on the eliptical in about half an hour. I walk a few more laps, then do a routine on the weight machines that my physical therapist set up for me. Then I walk a few more laps. While I'm waiting for my brother to finish up, I jump back on the eliptical and do whatever I get up to. Usually a quarter of a mile, then I walk a lap and go home. That's one day, then the next day I walk the track for half an hour, lift a few weights and go home. The first day is about an hour and a half, the 2nd day is about 45 minutes. I do this thru the week. I also work full time, Wednesday thru Sunday with Mondays and Tuesdays off, so I feel like I get in plenty of exercise. I also have 2 kids, 17 and 7. I'm always on the go, but what's so awesome is that I can finally keep up with my kids, eventho I have only dropped 35 pounds...it's made a huge difference, I can't wait to see how I feel when I hit that 100 pound weight loss target :)

Wow I feel like I'm really slacking.

I'm 3 months or so Post Op and just started an exercise routine. I've been going to the gym three times per week, doing 30 minutes of cardio (elliptical/arc glider ect) and 30-45 minutes of weights.

I know a secret about exercise success. Wanna hear it?

Find something you like doing. Then do that.

I hate running. (Sorry Paul) I do it sometimes as a fitness and endurance test but I absolutely hate running. If I depended on running for exercise I probably would not do it. Same goes for a lot of the exercise routines you see out there.

But if it is anything to do with dance, boxing or weight lifting? I'm all in baby! I go to THOSE classes religiously because I like them.

So my advice to you would be to find something you like doing and have fun with it! And keep pushing yourself intensity wise. Now that I have MOST of the Zumba moves down (my instructor thankfully sticks to a set repertoire for a number of weeks) I now push myself by doing higher intensity (jumping instead of stepping) and getting more of my body into it (hips, arms, abs, everything!).

What do you love to do?
