This is off topic but I was wondering if you could help me with a couple of blood test results. My HGB was 14.5, HCT was 42.7, and MO% was 3.8%. It was a morning appt and I had not had much water at all when the tests were taken. I was not fasting either. If you could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. Thanks for any help you can give! Sandy

You mentioned we malabsorb fats. Would this include krill oil? its kind of like fish oil only more potent.  I really want to take krill oil once my stoma is big enough to handle the pills. They are big.

It would include all kinds of oil.  You can take the krill oil, and you'll absorb some of it, just not all of it.  As you get further out, you may begin absorbing more.  I am three years out, though, and I know I still malabsorb fats to a degree - I can tell when I go to the bathroom.  But I also feel sure I absorb some, because I recently started taking flax seed oil for dry skin and it is really helping.

Thanks Kelly for this info. My dr. called me to tell me my Vit.D level was too high. I had her fax me the copy of my bloodwork. My Vit.D is 102. She wants me to cut it. I've been taking D-3 50,000 4 times a week and D-3 5000 3 times a week. How should I adjust it. Do you think it is too high?

Thanks in advance,

It's not too high, not at all.

You could probably cut out the 5000 three times a week.  And maybe cut the 50,000 IU down to three times a week, but I might just cut the 5000 doses first, then test again in a few months and decide from there.

Of course I am not a doctor.  I'm telling you what I would do and what some of your options are.  You get to decide for yourself.

Thanks Kelly,

I totally understand...I do however, value your opinion very highly since you have been there and done it. I had thought of cutting the 5000 and taking the 1000 that I have and cuttting the 50,000 to three X a week instead of 4 X a week. I will having blood work done soon at the military base where I had my surgery last December 30, 2010 in a few weeks for my one year mark and let you know how the dosage worked. I sure don't want to go less than 80!

Thanks again,
