I am scheduled for surgery on the 19th....I can't wait! Anyways, I was wondeing if I needed someone to come and stay with me as I recover. I live alone and far away from family. My mom wants to come, I tell her I will be fine, but I figured I should get some input from people who have already gone through it. Any feedback would be great!

I'd probably have your mom come at least for a few days just to get you settled and all of that especially should you have any complications. I know after a major surgery, I wouldn't want to be completely alone. What if you need something? If your on pain meds, you won't be able to drive. Just little things like that.

If she is offering, I would take it! I was very happy to have my husband home for a week after sugery, although I also have two small children. Good luck with your surgery!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

If you have small children at home, yes I think it would be great if your Mom could help for a
week if you feel you need it.

If no small children, then if you would like the company for a day or so, let her come!  If there
are no complications, you will be able to enjoy your visit, and if there are complications she
can help right away.

Personally, I didn't have either complications or children, and only needed a neighbor
to take me to the grocery store once, and really had no problems with healing in peace and
quiet.

Be sure to tell us about all your Wow! moments!  And watch out for those times your jeans
fall off as you go upstairs with your hands full of a laundry basket or something!

Best wishes,

You will probably be fine alone, but I think it makes sense to let her come for a few days.  You may not feel very well, and if you need something from the store, you might not be able to go yourself.  You can't drive yourself anywhere if you are still on pain meds.    You may have trouble doing stuff like laundry yourself.

I think it's a good idea to let your mom come stay with you for a few days. There is no way to predict how you will fair post op everybody has a different experience. You don't want to get home and find that you need help and don't have any available. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have much pain post op so I wasn't on any meds and I move around the house pretty freely. I live with my hubby and 4kids so I didn't really have to do for myself unless I wanted too, and I did.

Thanks for all the input! I will leave it up to her if she wants to come.
