2 weeks post-op; why can I eat so much?!

I'm only two weeks post-op and I'm a little concerned at the amount I can eat. I started back on solid food on Friday, Dec 2nd. I was able to eat 2 eggs and a piece of Ezekiel bread toast for breakfast without feeling very full and no nausea or discomfort, and then for lunch I had about 4 ozs of grilled salmon and quite a bit of cooked spinach without feeling very full and no nausea or discomfort. I also wake up in the mornings with a very high level of physical hunger. Is any of this usual?

You need to put less on your plate.  Use your measuring cups as volume...only use a 1/4 cup.  That's just my opinion.  Stop eating when you are full.  That is twice as much as I can eat and I've been out for 3 1/2 months.
I don't know what your doctor or nutrutionist told you but bread is illegal for me and you would be on pureed food for the next two weeks.  Your pouch needs to heal or food can get caught in your staples and get you into trouble.  Concentrate on protien first and not carbs.
Yes, I think you should be concerned.

I totally agree, i measure everything out and i am 3 months post op. I dont eat any breads at all and i try to focus mostly on protein!!! keep track of your calorie intake as well. i do 800 calories and at least 60 grams of protein. But, i was on pureed food for a month before i ate real food too.

My advice...

Stop using your pouch as a measuring device.  The nerves to your stomach were cut during surgery so you CAN'T feel when you are full....which will lead to overeating.  If you JUST started solid food....you should be eating about 1/4 of a cup of food at a time...MAX.   So only fix ONE egg instead of two.  If you still are hungry, eat smaller meals throughout the day or day an additional protein shake but don't overeat and stuff yourself thinking that when you get full you will get a signal from your pouch/stomach because the nerves that give that signal have been cut and you won't get it.

Also, as early out as you are, I wouldn't eat any bread...it's empty carbs and calories that offer no nutritional value.

Nice answer - well said. It's true the nerves won't send any signals for a while. I love the "stop using your pouch as a measuring device" truer words were never spoken. Thanks! I learned
something today.

wow.  I would call the dr.  I am 5 weeks out and still measuring everything.  I am only up to 2 oz protein at a time (and i can't eat that much)  NO BREAD at all for a long time.  Is this the menu your Nutritionist gave you?

I am never hungry and that worries me bc i will forget to eat something some days.  So to wake up hungry, is it head hunger.  like you know you should eat bc that is what we always did.

are you taking the 1/2 hour to eat your meals.  Maybe you won't finish all that food in the time and feel full.

good luck.  i would love to know what the dr. says..

I too feel the amount you are eating is too much. I am about 3 1/2 weeks out and can almost eat around 1/4 C. I know alot of people/there nutritionist say to not eat carbs but i dont totally agree with that. I dont think it's good to cut out a certain food group, my nutritiounist says they are fine to eat as long as i am on soft foods. I wouldn't be able to eat much i'm sure like 1/4 piece of toast or something but they still encourage us to eat from each food group. With that being said i think it would be a good idea to contact your nutritionist and set up an appointment with them, they should be able to lead you in the right direction :) Good luck!

I am almost a year out and I still measure about 80% of my food.  I still don't have a full/restrictive feeling.  I will hiccup when I am full, but can't feel it.
Each surgeon/nut is different with what you can eat and what you can't.  Follow your plan you were given.
