help please
I went to new york for about a month. While there I ate things I rarely eat....carbs and more carbs. I did not take fluid pills the whole time there. I know I didn't eat over my daily calorie limit but the scales say I am up 17 pounds..How is that possible? I am baffled, upset, scared and feeling like crap. I know I need to get back to basics. I am worried I won't get it back off again. I was a slow loser to begin with. I have beat myself up for a couple of days now over letting myself spiral out of control.
Are you retaining fluids?

It's easier for me to believe you gained it from fluid retention than by what you ate. Did you eat 59,500 MORE calories than what you burned? I don't see how that would be possible, but that's what you would have had to eat to gain 17 pounds.

You mentioned that you didn't take fluid pills during your trip. Do you usually take them? I would say it is also fluid retention if you gained that much so quickly and didn't take the pills. I once gained 7lbs in one day (I am pre-op btw) and lost it all two days later without changing my diet much except ensuring I watched my sodium intake. If this keeps happening to you, you might want to check in with your doctor and dietician too.
For every pound of carbs it takes 2 pounds of water in your system. So you may have gained 5-6 pounds but the other 2/3 of the weight is water. Remember those diet when you could get off the first ten pounds so easily when you cut the carbs? It was mostly water. And while you may not have overeaten during that month, you were probably ingesting a larger amount of carbs than you realize if you weren't keeping a food journal. So cut your carbs and see if you don't lose some fluid really fast.
Good luck.
Good luck.
